Problem with footnotes
[edit]I have added a footnote of the new type. Unfortunately, there are footnotes of the old type on the page. I don't have time to convert them right now, sorry. Richard Myers 13:17, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Bisexual
[edit]I'm not sure what the usual standards for this are, but I feel like if the article is going to be in the bisexual writers category, there should be mention somewhere in the article about her being bisexual.

- I likewise don't know what the usual standards are for inclusion in the bisexual writers category, but i've just reverted someone's removal of the LGBT template on this page-- for three reasons. They didn't explain why they removed it. They didn't do a proper removal. And, they simultaneously made some edits to the article that were very inappropriate (use of biased language, i.e., "slander", "wildly", etc.), which makes me mistrust the template edit on this page. Unsourced unilateral edits on such a sensitive subject call at the very least for some TALK page discussion.
- Actually i'm not sure if anyone knows for certain that Flynn was bisexual. I understand that she wrote about lesbian relationships, particularly relating to women in prison. She also lived with a woman for ten years who was described as an out lesbian. If Flynn didn't tell us what (if any) relationship she had beyond obvious affection and living together, should we even speculate about her personal life?
- That leaves the question of the category. Well, it seems she may qualify as part of the bisexual writers category on the basis of her writing alone. I expect that someone doesn't have to be bisexual in order to write about bisexuality, or perhaps be appreciated by the bisexual community as someone who has made a significant contribution. I think this subject is open to discussion, i can see arguments on both sides. But probably the best contribution we might make is to report what is known with good, properly sourced edits; clarify that other information may be unwarranted, as yet unknown, or unpublished (i've encountered at least one source that might accomplish this); and, thereby encourage readers not to jump to conclusions. Sounds like a challenge for someone with access to good source material. Richard Myers (talk) 01:18, 5 March 2009 (UTC)
question about expulsion from IWW
[edit]There may be a question whether Flynn was actually expelled from membership in the IWW, or just from her very active role in leadership of that organization. See related discussion here: Talk:Joseph_James_Ettor

What Period?
[edit]In the third paragraph under Activist Career, it says that "Flynn was arrested 10 times during this period." What period is being referred to here? During the time when the police were trying to confiscate the Industrial Worker? It's a little unclear. Kolrok | Msgs © 19:10, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
