Seems a bit short from a glance compared to other bios, but I'll assume good faith and look this through. Expect comments within a few days. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:56, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
- Yeah, a bit thin, but it covers all the available and encyclopaedic info about the lady. No probs if this is a little too thin for GA – I'll trust your judgment on these matters, as GAN is a long-forgotten territory for me! Cheers – SchroCat (talk) 13:43, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
It turns out there aren't many issues:
- "that of Parliament Joan is one that stuck"..... reads rather awkwardly
- "In 1645 Alkin was employed by the earl of Essex, Sir William Waller, to be a spy for the Parliamentarians; she received a similar commission from Sir Thomas Fairfax two years later" is really long for one sentence, even with a semicolon.
- It would be nice to include her parents' names, when she married Francis Alkin, and what the names of her children were, but in fairness there seems to be little that is known about her pre-Civil War life and I understand if these cannot be found.
- Sadly none of her early life - including maiden name, or details of children, etc - are known. Even the normally reliable Dictionary of National Biography comes up short. It's the perennial problem with non-nobles from 450 ago: the records just aren't there any more (if they were ever kept in the first place!) - SchroCat (talk) 19:03, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
- Add a comma after "In the seventeenth century"
- "Clarke considers that it is possible that Alkin used"..... try Clarke beleves Alkin may have used
- "A petition for financial relief, dated May 1655"..... from
On hold. Shouldn't take long to fix. Snuggums (talk / edits) 16:24, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
- Many thanks Snuggums, all changed, except the one I've commented on. There is very little about her in the records, but she's an interesting figure in herfield. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 19:03, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
