Coincidence with Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion Eliza Doolittle character being sold for £5 and Eliza Armstrong. The play was also published in 1912 the year William T Stead died in Titanic, also linked to Unlucky Mummy BM.22542 stories. --Imeldaosuzara (talk) 19:14, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Value of £5 today

The mother agreed to sell her daughter for a total of £5 - equivalent to approximately £4,000 in 2014.

This is out by about an order of magnitude. According to the Bank of England's inflation calculator, £5 in 1885 is equivalent to about £574 in 2014. Hairy Dude (talk) 19:56, 25 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
