Title
[edit]- Elite Police is not the encyclopedic title: Pakistan Elite Police? Punjab Elite Police? --Wetman (talk) 16:15, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
- I agree we need a better title. Elite Police of Pakistan Punjab would be my suggestion--Wikireader41 (talk) 16:38, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
- It is called Elite force so the title.Just as NSG or SWATUser:Yousaf465 (talk)
Good day all! I am a member of this force. Police is a provincial matter in Pakistan and primarily this force was established in Punjab, a province of Pakistan and was named as The Punjab Elite Police Force but in common it is called Elite Police Force- EPF. Afterwards, Sindh and Kheyber Pakhtoon Kha, two other provinces also established this unit at provincial level. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Qaim Alavi (talk • contribs) 17:41, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Some suggestions...
[edit]First of all, we need an introduction on this unit; is it a special forces or commando or SWAT unit, or is it something else? Next, what kind of things do they specialize in, and what are their areas of expertise; counter terrorism, hostage rescue or what? The structure, training and operations section need refs (and more info) . Consider these points:
- They were providing security to the SL cricket team's convoy, which suggests that VVIP security is part of their role. If so, do they provide security to any Pakistani officials (MPs, state officials etc)?
EPF provides security to VVIPs Qaim Alavi (talk) 17:50, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
- It says they were trained for reconnaissance, which suggests that they may be involved in military operations as well. If so, were they involved in the Kashmir conflict etc? (probably not, since it is part of the Punjab police and not a nationwide unit.
They had never been involved in any activity beyond the border. It is a special unit of police stationed at district level to assist district police in certain circumstance within the districts. Qaim Alavi (talk) 17:50, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
- The article says "They are trained in the use of a range of weapons, including the Ak-47, MP-5 and even grenades". I don't know how it is in Pakistan, but usually an elite special operations unit will be trained in using just about any weapon. Even a regular unit is trained in using weapons like AK-47 and grenades. But the way it is mentioned here, it gives the impression that this is something special and the regular units of the Pakistani military/police do not receive this training. More specific information should be there.
- Didn't the Pakistani newspapers report about this unit after the Lahore 3/3 attack? It is likely that a lot of information is available after this.
Maybe you should take a look at the article Special Task Force, which seems to be a unit that is somewhat similar in nature. Chamal talk 03:28, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
- Lead section will be check.
- They provide security to any VVIP ranging from President to MP and other Politicans.
- Reconnaissance agianst armed ganges and terroist group. Not military intelligence.
- Yes speical training by SSG,Police isn't trained for CQC,they are.Mp-5 is not used by police. Also in crowd control.User:Yousaf465 (talk)
- They did but most of the information was on tv.
What to do with this
[edit]a. Mobile Patrolling: Where law and order situation is out of control. Strongholds
of terrorists and criminals exist.
b. Laying Ambushes: Against terrorists, dacoits and criminals on
expected/suspected routes/areas.
c. Carry Out Raids: On the hide-outs, bases, HQs, living areas, strong holds of
terrorists, dacoits and criminals.
d. Cordon and Search Operations: To apprehend terrorists, dacoits and
criminals and recover arms and ammunition form their strongholds.
e. Built-Up Area Operations: The EPF is especially trained for combat in and
mound buildings which provides them a clear edge in operations in urban
environment.
f. Rescue Operations: The can be put to use in hostage situations, kidnappings
and buildings on fire and such like emergencies.

Sri Lankan Cricket Team attack
[edit]I have read carefully the news articles referring to the cricket team attack and Musharraf's criticisms afterwards. His words that are quoted are: "If this was the elite force I would expect them to have shot down those people who attacked them..." Note the use of the word "If". i actually have failed to locate a source that explicitly states that the Elite Force was providing the security on the day. All reporting appears to me remarkably vague about what the on-the-ground resources were - though there is no question that police escorts were provided - and died in considerable numbers. In these circumstances, i think the reference to Elite Force providing the team's security needs to be removed, and just Musharraf's comments retained. i will attempt such an edit.
