1979/1981

[edit]

The song was published in 1979, according to both this and the inlay of The Magic of Boney M. Yet this states that he wasn't pardoned until 1981. So what exactly had happened by 1979 that had enabled the final part of the song [1] to be written? -- Smjg (talk) 22:27, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Moreover, the song states that he was sentenced to death at age 19. According to the article, he was 22 or 23. Which is correct? -- Smjg (talk) 22:54, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's reasonable to say that "El Lute" - like other Boney M songs - takes artistic liberties. Compare the song "Ma Baker" to the real Kate "Ma" Barker. :)
Maybe it's simply that this song is clearly *supposed* to be optimistic: it couldn't have ended with: "mind you, he's still in prison...", so the ending reflects the *hope* of inevitable freedom... ?
( And the lyric: "He was only 19 and was sentenced to die..." simply flows better than "He was just 22 and something he did not do..." )

Considerar a una persona forajido, que en un principio al menos, robaba para comer,me parece muy injusto. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.224.105.247 (talk) 01:00, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
