Collector of fossils?

[edit]

The word "fossil" (or fossile) has an obsolete meaning of anything dug up from the earth, including rocks and minerals. It's clear I think that she collected minerals. Mikenorton (talk) 09:55, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Mikenorton: Yes, thanks for picking that up - I knew her collection was largely (entirely?) minerals, had spotted the discrepancy, didn't know the old meaning of "fossil"! Fascinating bit of etymology, thanks. We learn something every day while editing. I now have a copy of the 2015 Huber and Huber paper (through a helpful editor at WP:RX) so will be able to expand about her collection, beyond what I could hack out from their 2009 German-language paper. I started the article at her wrong name (the Frenchified version used by Born, and followed by Schuh and Wilson), so it's gradually improving. PamD 13:31, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't aware of that meaning either, I was just curious about the name of Born's book and how that fitted in with minerals. Mikenorton (talk) 20:14, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
