I wonder if you can help me out with the following article: Electoral (Amendment) Act 1974 basically what I would like to do with it would be to have constituencies in 1973 on the same line(s) as their successor constituencies in 1977. So for example rather than have North County Dublin (1973), Dublin North West, North County Dublin (1977), West County Dublin and Dublin Finglas all on 5 seperate lines, I would prefer to have only three lines, with the 1977 seats on the right and the 1973 constituencies on the left both in the middle of each line. Hope that makes sense.
Also I believe that rather than having 'Tullymander' redirect to the gerrymander article it would be better for it to redirect to the electoral amendment 1974 article. Is it possible to change the redirect? Thanks Valenciano06:30, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well done creating the article! It's a great start.
First point, the Tullymander redirect: that's done
Hmm, I had a go at it, but I ended up reverting the changes (here's the version I created, tho please don't just revert back to that, because I have made more changes since then). The problem is that it doesn't seem to me to be possible to make an easy grouping of before-and-after constituencies, because so far as I can see, there was in most cases no grouping of 1977 constituencies which aligned with the previous boundaries. An analysis of the act might allow some groupings, but I think that although the idea of a series of groupings might make sense, it isn't really workable in practice.
I suggest that instead, it would be better to split the table in two, with a Dublin table and a rest-of-Ireland table, and to just list the constituencies alphabetically, without trying to correlate the individual before and after constituencies. The Dublin areas could possibly be divided into the city County Dublin areas, because I presume that the constituencies did not usually cross local authority boundaries ... but that's only a guess, and some caeful checking would be needed.
