False Etymology
[edit]Gamma is not Latin, it's Greek. And the reference to a ray of light, an allusion to gamma rays, is modern English usage. The concept of "gamma ray" does not exist in Latin or Greek. Penumbra is not shadow per se, it's the secondary shadow. The Latin word for shadow is umbra. Finally, the citation given for the etymology has no mention at all of El Gamma Penumbra.
In fact, the word El Gamma Penumbra is three words from three different languages: Spanish, Greek, and Latin. The name itself does not make sense, and it is strange at best to try to make sense of it. The best I could make of it is "The third letter's lighter shadow." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 112.201.141.16 (talk) 16:32, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
