A citation should be provided for asserting that the books are set in Boston. As far as I can recall, there is no identifying information ever given, and I remember encountering information once that it was modeled on Salem. It's certainly a major New England port city, but Salem, Portsmouth, or Newburyport are also possible settings that fit the descriptions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.233.201.26 (talk) 12:15, 3 October 2013 (UTC) I agree, since in the sequel Rose In Bloom a conference takes place in Boston, described as a train ride from the Campbells' home town. It appears that the Aunt Hill is probably in Beverly, on the other side of the harbor from Salem, and therefore an easy boat row. Salem and Beverly are also more likely venues for Rose's uncle's daily dip in the ocean, as well as a famous port for the China trade. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.133.200.240 (talk) 15:40, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, there! I'm a paid student employee at BYU and am popping in to say that I'm going to edit this article. As part of my goal to bring this article up to a higher status, I'm planning on adding sources, rearranging sections, and making substance edits as needed. My work on this page is related to BYU's Louisa May Alcott collection. Feel free to join me, and let me know if you have any questions! Heidi Pusey BYU (talk) 19:31, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it seems that this page needs more work than I originally thought. As such, I'm going to give a little update. I'm preparing Background and Reception sections, as well as a Themes section that will replace the unsourced Themes section that already exists. The new Themes section has similar ideas to what already exists, but it will have sources and be explained in a little more depth. I'm seriously considering removing the character section because the characters are talked about in both the Plot and Themes sections. If I remove it, I'll make sure to put any important character information in the plot. If that doesn't work, I'll make a condensed version of the character section. @Heidi Pusey BYU, I agree with removing the characters section. Those sections tend to accumulate trivia and fancruft. I noticed that the novels project's template for article structure doesn't include one. Schazjmd (talk) 19:35, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Schazjmd (talk) That's what I was concerned about. It doesn't read like an encyclopedic entry. Thanks for your input! Heidi Pusey BYU (talk) 19:58, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And I hope you have a perfectly wonderful day! Heidi Pusey BYU (talk) 19:58, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
