Egoboo in the Open Source Programming Movement
[edit]The term later spread into the open source programming movement, where the concept of non-monetary reward from community response is a key motive for many of the participants.

[edit]The first print citation available electronically is Bob Tucker's 1954 Neo-Fan's Guide
An earlier one online is from Lee Hoffman's December 1950 fanzine Quandry #5, page 12: [1]. The word is also used on page 2 of the issue, but page 12 is a better example.
