A fact from Eggs over Easy appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 19 December 2008, and was viewed approximately 2,040 times (disclaimer) (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
My mother was the landlady of the Tally Ho in Kentish Town, and she regretted giving Eggs Over Easy so many regular sessions, because she had the problem of filling the gaps when they left. EOE were certainly not the first of the pub rock genre, though they were popular at the Tally Ho. Ian Dury's band Kilburn and the High Road, and another band called Chilli Willi and the Red Hot Peppers were playing there at around the same time if not before. Interesting, but I'm afraid the written references don't support your memory. Allmusic, Will Birch, NME and numerous other sources, cite EOE as the first pub-rock band, and I've never seen any alternative name suggested.
Although the exact date of EOE's first appearance at the Tally Ho is disputed (see article), it was either 3 or 13 May 1971. Kilburn and the High Roads first gig was at Croydon School of Art on 5 December 1971 [1]. Chilli Willi didn't start gigging until Martin Stone and Phil Lithman assembled a band to promote their album Kings of the Robot Rhythm released in 1972.
