Naming year dispute
[edit]Okay, there are some problems with the year in which Efraasia was named. Supposedly the genus was named in 1976, but the binomial name was already introduced in 1913. Since the genus name is part of the binomial name, this is impossible. Jerkov 20:27, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
- The confusion arises because the authority of the binomial name goes to whoever first named any part of the binomial. The fossil in question was originally named Teratosaurus minor in 1913. After jumping around a few dozen or so other genera, the name Efraasia was created for it in 1976. Therefore, the genus name is from 1976, but the binomial name is still from 1913 because it retains the original species name.Dinoguy2 02:37, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
