I'd like to see some citations to back up the statements made in this article, particularly concerning the correlation between Judge Torres' profession and the 'familiarity' with the subject matter of his books. Is this article trying to say that his judicial capacities allowed him insights into the criminal? This seems impossible since Carlito's Way was published in 1975, whereas his judicial career began in 1977! Please enlighten, clarify, and cite; many thanks.

Edwin Torres grew up in Spanish Harlem and had many friends and acquaintances who grew up on both sides of the law. He was the first puetro rican Asst. DA appointed under the legendary Frank Hogan and had a career as a criminal attorney before becoming a judge. His life experiences are referenced in his books.
