Edwin / Edward
[edit]I know there is a redirect, but it should probably be mentioned in a footnote in this article that Brown is often referred to as "Edward" Stanley Brown. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 11:26, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
E S "Nigger" Brown Stand
[edit]A significant part of Brown's notability stems from the controversy surrounding the naming of the "E S 'Nigger' Brown Stand". This controversy was subject of several law suits, a book, and a documentary film, some of which have Wikipedia articles. It is also mentioned in the Wikipedia articles on Nigger, Politics of Toowoomba, Queensland, and Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. It is not proper to repeat the story of that controversy in this article, but the reader should find a reference to other articles which explain it. That's why I added the short phrase: "for details, see the article on the book The N Word: One Man's Stand and its author, Stephen Hagan."
User:Jeff79 called my edit "blatant self-promotion". I don't understand that accusation as I have no affiliation with anybody involved in this episode and find it uncalled-for and offensive. I suggest to restore that phrase. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 13:26, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'll continue to remove any imperative phrases from Wikipedia with extreme prejudice. I'm sure it's detailed in the MOS somewhere. You might want to try something like, "The stand named after Brown became the subject of a book, The N Word: One Man's Stand, by Stephen Hagan who campaigned for its removal, which occured in [year]." Fully referenced of course.--Jeff79 (talk) 09:21, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
- Does your campaign against imperative phrases at Wikipedia include nominating the template {{See also}} and its numerous relatives for deletion? Thought not. Any explanation for your outburst ("blatant self-promotion")?
- Anyway, I'll adopt your suggestion, although there doesn't seem to be a need for references, given the article about the book. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 11:22, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't know failing to specify 'Wikipedia articles' body text' would confuse you. Silly me. Here you go. Thanks for fixing it.--Jeff79 (talk) 11:38, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- Do keep the "Nigger" bit in his name as in this article. It is history. Zezen (talk) 19:46, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
