Complete revision
[edit]I revised the article using White's introduction to the Dover edition of Lane's first book. I removed the bit re his marriage to a slave, for which I can find no references. White says that he married a Greek woman in 1840 -- I'll put this in the article. Could she be the "slave" in question? Zora 22:34, 16 May 2006 (UTC) coming to this discussion much later - I have restored (and referenced) the details of Lane's marriage to a slave - it's in most of the biographicl material on Lane. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rosabibi (talk • contribs) 07:24, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
Quick note: The Thousand an One Nights is online in entirety @ google books: http://books.google.com/books?id=lkUJAAAAQAAJ Also, I believe it was published in 1839,1840, and 1841 (one volume each year; I have it sitting on my shelf and that's what it says!). Trivia: mentioned a number of times by Borges--El informe de Brodie (Brodie's Report) is a text supposedly found in a volume of Lane's work. Jebba (talk) 23:26, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
External Links to Lane's Lexicon.
[edit]User DÜNGÁNÈ today inserted the following eight links to books.google.com, which link to volumes of Lane's Lexicon. I have deleted them for the reason which I now state.
http://books.google.com/books?id=f7r8y3dKzfkC = No download or preview available. Don't even know which volume it is.
http://books.google.com/books?id=3R7g2U0l9-8C = Volume One. Downloadable. Okay.
http://books.google.com/books?id=NiwwAAAAYAAJ = Volume Two. Downloadable. Okay.
http://books.google.com/books?id=8yswAAAAYAAJ = A duplicate of Volume One: The very same thing as id=3R7g2U0l9-8C above.
http://books.google.com/books?id=k-c3qv6tbMQC = No download or preview available. Don't even know which volume it is.
http://books.google.com/books?id=DAgbV0aGKNwC = No Download or preview available. Don't even know which volume it is.
http://books.google.com/books?id=4J0OAAAAYAAJ = Illegible snippet view only. Effectively unviewable online. Not downloadable.
http://books.google.com/books?id=3p4OAAAAYAAJ = Illegible snippet view only. Effectively unviewable online. Not downloadable.
Out of the eight volumes of Lane's lexicon, only volumes 1 and 2 are available from the links to books.google.com above inserted by Dugane. Meanwhile all eight volumes are already downloadable at the link already being given in "External Links" section of the page. Thus even if the above books.google.com links were going to viewable and downloadable copies, they would still be unneeded. Seanwal111111 (talk) 18:53, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
