Draft article for consideration

Hello! Over the past few months, I've been working with Dick's Sporting Goods via Finsbury to prepare improvements to this Wikipedia article as part of my work at Beutler Ink. I've disclosed my conflict of interest above using the "connected contributor (paid)" template, and I will not be editing the article directly. Instead, I'll be proposing article improvements based on this draft, and seeking assistance with implementation via talk page requests.

I'd like to start by identifying a few problems with the existing entry. The current article is just 8 sentences long and confirms little more than Stack's current role at DSG, where he purchased a home, his alma mater, and two board roles. The sentence about his residence actually shares his exact address, which is possibly concerning for privacy reasons. Also, reference #2 just directs readers to a stocks page, and two non-notable individuals are mentioned in the infobox. I've worked to flesh out Stack's biography using Wikipedia-appropriate sourcing. My proposed draft has some additional detail about his early life and education, his role and work at DSG (without going into specifics about the company itself), and some notable rankings and recognition, which contribute to his notability. I don't believe any of the claims are particularly controversial, and overall I believe this is a more well-rounded biography for the community to review and implement appropriately.

Inkian Jason, some issues are similar to those in the Moe draft we had recently. Here are my propositions:

• "Ed Stack" appears to be used less commonly than the full-er name "Edward W. Stack" (also represented by Dick's' management site), so the |name= parameter (which usually also represents the article title) should also include that name, and the |birth_name= parameter left empty. Similarly, the "Ed" part in the introduction should be removed due to implicity (WP:LEGALNAME). If necessary, given that it is still used in some cases you could do "Edward W. Stack, also known as Ed Stack, ...".
• In the infobox, add Dick Stack in the |father= parameter.
• |alma_mater= should only be used as a replacement for |education= if there not sufficient information available. Instead format the latter parameter as [[St. John Fisher College]] ([[Bachelor of Arts and Science|B.A.S.]], 1977) and leave alma_mater blank.
• Format |net_worh= as {{US$|1.2 billion|link=yes}} to conform MOS:CURRENCY.
• Under |boards= remove [[Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania]]'s and use {{plainlist}} instead of {{flatlist}} to improve readability.
• In the introduction, remove "currently" and add the name of his father where the father is mentioned.
• In the "Early life and education" section begin the article body with the person's full (known) name.
• The section also contains too much detail surrounding the founding of Dick's; consider simplifyiing it to "Edward W. Stack is the son of Richard "Dick" Stack, who founded sporting retailer Dick's Sporting Goods in 1948." As a result, "the city" in the subsequent sentence will have to be replaced with a mention of Binghamton.
• Try to avoid mid-sentence references, unless they stricly only confirm a single preceeding claim in enumarations (example: the "Board service" section). Instead, move refs to the ends of sentences.
• Also change "his [B.A.S.] degree" to "a [B.A.S.] degree" (emphasis only for clarity here), given that it is the university's degree he got.
• In "Career", establish a more chronological flow. I would expect that he became chair/CEO first and then made several executive decisions afterwards.
• "Stack owned approximately 25 percent of Dick's common stock" -- I might be wrong, but I think it should be Dick's', unless he owned his father's stock.
• In the final sentence of that section, format his valuation like previously in the infobox.
• "Rankings" and "recognition" are, depending on context, pretty much the same. Simplify the section title to "Recognition".
• In the first sentence of that section, it might not be clear to everyone what "the nation" is, replace it with "the United States".

References appear to be reliable. As usual I will do a re-check after the changes and put it live if all is good. Lordtobi (✉) 12:06, 10 November 2018 (UTC)

@Lordtobi: Thank you for your thorough review. I believe I've addressed all your comments with this edit, with just 2 exceptions: (1.) instead of replacing "the nation's" with "the United States'", I changed the text to "survey of the best chief American executives"; (2.) I moved inline citations to the end of sentences, except where I thought there would be too many bundled at the end, including in the "Board service" section. This draft is improved because of your recommendations, so thanks for the suggestions. Please let me know if you need anything else before copying the draft over to the main space. Inkian Jason, draft has been carried over with some minor edits. Comparing the new version to the old one showed that it omitted Stack's spouse and residence purchase in 2015, both of which I have included in a brief "Personal life" section, as well as the link to Wikipedia sister project Wikiquote, which is now restored. What I forgot to mention during the initial review is that a WP:DEFAULTSORT identifier was missing, similar to the Moe draft, which is also added back in now. Regards. Marriage

@Edwardx: Hello! On behalf of Mr. Stack and Finsbury, I've been asked to correct the Wikipedia article regarding his marriage. Turns out the Forbes link (which incorrectly suggested Stack was divorced) has been updated to confirm he is still married. I was wondering if you could please revert your most recent edit to the article? I don't edit the main space directly given my conflict of interest, but reverting the last change would make the article accurate once again.

Dick’s abortion policy.

I would like to know if Dick’s employees that choose to do the right thing and have children will receive $4000.00 like the employees getting abortions? If not, that seems like discrimination to me. Just curious, Alan B. 208.104.51.218 (talk) 00:26, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
