One Sir Edward Littleton or two?

[edit]

I believe that this article conflates two men named Sir Edward Littleton. The first, Edward Littleton of Pillaton Hall, Staffordshire (1653-1705), was a Member of Parliament. The second, Edward Littleton of The Moor, Shropshire (d. 1707), was a merchant and administrator for the East India Company in Bengal. The latter married Elizabeth Woodruff (1649-78) and had two daughters, the magnificently named Jane Hugliana and Elizabeth Gangetica (d. 1679) - see The Diaries of Streynsham Master. His daughter and heir, Jane married Edward Clavell, the son of Walter Clavell, one of Littleton's colleagues in Bengal, but died without issue around 1703 (from Hutchins' History of Dorset). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.153.77.151 (talk) 16:33, 11 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
