New name
[edit]I really don't like this name, PBS. Hungerford Market is surely quite a small detail in his life. How about Edward Hungerford (spendthrift)? Moonraker2 (talk) 09:29, 11 April 2010 (UTC)
- Because I think it was Hungerford Market for which he was best remembered and so is the most notable name for a dab extension. -- PBS (talk) 00:59, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- I agree with Moonraker2 and have created the Dab. The capitalisation is also confusing in H M. Sorry messed up on that one. Motmit (talk) 16:58, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry, "Edward Hungerford (spendthrift)" is an absurd page title, not least because his spending may have been the result of his father and father-in-laws debts incurred during the Civil War. I have renamed it to a more neutral sounding "Edward Hungerford (1632-1711)".Lobsterthermidor (talk) 19:37, 7 February 2017 (UTC)
- I disagree that it's an absurd title. The term is used as a descriptor in the first sentence of his article in the new ODNB (http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/14174?docPos=2 - UK library card required), so I've moved it back. Please discuss with interested editors before changing it again. If the page is moved away from "(spendthrift)" it should preferably be to Edward Hungerford (died 1711), to match similar entries on the dab page Edward Hungerford; or at the very least Edward Hungerford (1632–1711), using the correct n-dash. I also disagree with the addition of information from a 200-year old source that can't be deemed reliable due to its age: if it's trustworthy someone will have written about it more recently - please find that recent source. —SMALLJIM 20:37, 7 February 2017 (UTC)

- The convention on the disambiguation page is to name him Edward Hungerford (died 1711). His spending habits may be noted in the DNB but there's a reason why POV statements like that are not included in the DNB title of the entry. Otherwise I could make a case for Winston Churchill (manic depressive), Henry VIII (wife murderer) etc
