Malbone is mentioned several times as the painter of the miniature of Clifford Pyncheon in Nathaniel Hawthornes the house of seven gables.

Sorry, I am unfamiliar with the protocol here and I’m having a hard time doing this on my phone. Anyway, Nathaniel Hawthorne‘s house of the seven gables has elderly Hephzibah Pyncheon frequently look at & caress a miniature by Malbone of her long-imprisoned brother Clifford Pyncheon.
