Dubious statement in lead

[edit]
"he was the only member of the Mercury/Gemini/Apollo-era astronaut corps to die before being assigned to a prime or backup spaceflight crew."

As far as I know, Theodore Freeman, the first NASA astronaut to die, also was not yet assigned to a crew. If this is wrong, someone please provide a citation. JustinTime55 (talk) 14:38, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Citation help

[edit]

@Hawkeye7: Ed Givens' Project Mercury participation Archived 2016-12-28 at the Wayback Machine is not a RS. Burgess says on the forum that the information is contained in Selecting the Mercury Seven: The Search for America's Astronauts, which I believe you own. I am trying to limit my book purchasing until I get through what I already own..would you be able to replace the citation with the appropriate page number from Burgess' book?
