This is a really poor article
[edit]I came here specifically to learn more about the crimes for which this man was convicted. I find nothing, no details whatsoever. I can only conclude this is deliberate as the writer did not wish the facts to get in the way. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aldiboront (talk • contribs) 17:47, 26 August 2018 (UTC)
Part of transcript from 1979 trial:
Appellant agreed to accompany Sheriff Joe Mack Thaggard and Rudolph Adcock to Jackson for the purpose of taking a polygraph examination. However, before reaching Jackson, appellant told the officers he wanted to talk about it. He was advised of his rights, whereupon he gave an oral statement to the officers which was tape-recorded. Appellant was placed under arrest and returned to the Leake County Sheriff's Office where he was again advised of his rights and a statement taken from him. This statement, in which appellant admitted killing Officer Trest after the break-in at Miss Franklin's home, was admitted into evidence and also led to the recovery of Officer Trest's pistol.
It seems that there is audio tape of his confession, so not the case of him being forced to talk. Also, how was the pistol found? Johnson knew exactly where it was thrown away and told them? Was he then gassed innocent or not? What about fingerprints? Seems like he was at crime scene after all. Anyone, share some more info about this case if you have. It is all very muddy about this case. On trial they also stated that lady that was attacked was selling some kind of cream at 2AM!? What?? You open a door to stranger at 2AM at night to sell cream for $20? What the hell? It seems to me that all involved in this case, including the older lady, Johnson and the cop knew each other and were trading weed but then all got into disagreement. What a bizzare case.
I would be interested in seeing some details on the case, if the interview was recorded they can check to make sure tape was continuous i.e. recording not switched on and off and not edited . They could also check for dna/finger prints on weapon found to prove it was not just found and then credited to the suspect statement, be interested if the defence asked for this. They must have proper evidence for the case to pick up the suspect in the first place so would be good it this evidence could be posted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C5:6584:EC00:61FD:3567:14A7:B127 (talk) 17:56, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
POV
[edit]Almost all of this article is about his supporters' efforts, not about the man, his life or his crimes. Rmhermen (talk) 02:37, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
Also agree this is the case, there is very limited resources online that are publically available. The resources I do have are unpublished and not accessible to the public as of yet so make it difficult to edit this article.
Minor wording correction.
[edit]I made a small change in the order of the wording. The way it was previously written, it seemed to suggest that the rape took place during the police lineup.
