Title

This should be called "Education in the Republic of China" WhisperToMe 04:20, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

"Education in the Republic of China" is a more appropriate title.

Yup, the official name of the country is ROC, the MOE is a Ministry of the ROC, not "Taiwa"... should be renamedGumuhua (talk) 00:00, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Reorganization

Someone may want to go over the new edits to check for accuracy, I'm working off memory for a lot of this and my personal experience only extends up to early high school. Also with all the reforms going on of late, there may have been changes that I have neglected. --Loren 19:40, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Errors in text?

I only noticed one, but there may me more... For example, check the section on Higher Education: Nonetheless a high score is desired as admission to the most prestigious institutions (such as National Taiwan University) is still highly selective.Byeee 19:26, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Edit war

Privacy (talk · contribs) is edit warring with me. The substantive differences between our versions are:

• Saying ROC instead of Taiwan, and noting that the majority of the ROC is Taiwan.
• Adding "in Taiwan" after "Japanese colonial period".
• Misspelling "retro cession".
• Adding the para about abolishing corporal punishment in schools.
• Tagging "Taiwan has several universities" with fact.
• Putting it in Category:Education in the Republic of China instead of Category:Education in Taiwan.

Move to Education in the ROC...

The article discusses much more than just the government run schools. The article should not be moved. It is about all the education in the country, not just the government-run education. Where government-run schools and the MOE are discussed, the ROC name can and should be used.Readin (talk) 20:31, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

On a related note, the first sentence of the article needs to change as the article is not about the ROC education system, but about education of all types in Tawian. Readin (talk) 20:31, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Error in percentage

I may be wrong, but what from I have read, 98% of students taking the university entrance exam get into higher education. In addition, I have heard that anything BUT a perfect 0 on the exam can get you into a higher education. According to the text, the percentage is only 66.6%. Can someone verify this? Lots of errors

There are a lot of errors in this article and it is biased. For example: "Unlike the slower pace of elementary school, junior high students typically have a single goal in life: to score high on the national senior high school entrance exams at the end of 9th grade" - this is a gross generalization and is simply not true. Most of the sweeping statements and opinion are not referenced. Public Education is NOT Compulsory

When did compulsory education begin in Taiwan?

I'm asking this question here rather than the Compulsory education talkpage because I think I am more likely to get good answers to what may be a nuanced situation requiring local historical knowledge. The modern system of compulsory education began in 1968. But is that when compulsory education in general began? Did the occupation era 1898 Taiwan Education Act - which some sources describe as mandating compulsory education for Taiwanese - not introduce it in practice?
