Commentary on closing of schools in Beijing, retention rate in primary schools, and info on some secondary school
[edit]p. 121 of Dong and Chen: "This unreasonable rejection of vocational and technical education and blind development of senior secondary education was the[...]" -- But the quote continues onto p. 122 which I do not have a preview of.
p. 123 of Dong and Chen: "Statistics for 1989 showed that the enrolment rate of primary schools has reached 99.5 per cent, the drop out rate 0.4 per cent, the retention[...]" -- But the quote continues onto p. 124 which I do not have a preview of.
p. 125 of Dong and Chen stated "[...]or 100 per cent of its graduates enrol in universities and especially in key universities" but I do not have a preview of p. 124.
p. 125 of Dong and Chen stated: (referring to the graduates of vocational high schools) "95 per cent of whom are employed by government departments or[...]" but I do not have a preview of p. 126.

Address of the Commission of Education: Chinese site has current address, English site has outdated address

- 1949: 21 institutions, 2,403 students, 159 working staff
- 1959: 863 institutions, 66,577 students, 13,852 working staff
- 1965: 932 institutions, 105,573 students, and 19,249 working staff
- 1978: 5,074 institutions, 235,923 students, 39,982 working staff
- 1989: 3,824 institutions (decrease), 400,000 students, 41,314 working staff
And table of key secondary schools, p. 125 from Dong and Chen: from the State Education Commission, 1987
- 1953: 20 schools, making up 20.7% of total
- 1963: 12 schools, making up 2.7% of total
- 1981: 63 schools, making up 6.5% of total
