I'm reverting an edit from User:Raoulharris that added back links to Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu, and then removed a link to Linux-EduCD.
- The reason given for putting back the links to *buntu is to "provide ease of navigation and quicker access to useful information". The problem with duplicating the links to these is that it achieves exactly the opposite: it slows down access by growing the page's size uselessly. I also fail to see how duplicating the links provide quicker access to useful information.--Chealer 18:54, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- I disagree with you about the links at the bottom. The page is small, I don't think 4 or 5 extra lines is a problem if it is useful. I think it is useful because it means you can navigate to other *buntus in just one click. Before making my edit I wanted to check something in the Kubuntu article. To do this I had to scroll up to the top, click on the link to Ubuntu, look through the Ubuntu page for a mention of Kubuntu, then click on that link. Before I would have just clicked on the Kubuntu link and been taken straight to the page I wanted to go to. When I look at the wikipedia article for one *buntu distro I almost always end up looking at one or two others since they have a common base, I expect this is true of other people. Say I had a really slow connection like a 14k modem. How much longer would the couple of extra words take to load? And it means you only need to use one link to access the Kubuntu article, not two, so you save time. You might argue that it is in the way and means you have to scroll past it to get to the bottom of the page. But you already have to scroll down to get to the website link anyway, so it makes very little difference. Raoul Harris 08:23, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- The page is pretty small now, it was less small when it had all these duplicated links. Currently, with one scroll of the mouse wheel I can see all the page. One of us is misunderstanding the other. I believe you misunderstood my reason to remove the links. The reason I gave is basically "there's no need to duplicate links inside a single article". Unless I misunderstood you, you're arguing that all links to *buntu shouldn't be removed, while I didn't suggest the opposite. The page as it currently stands is fine for me, including the template linking to *buntu.--Chealer 05:16, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- To be honest I haven't got a clue what I was on about before. There's a "Ubuntu-based distributions and derivatives" template at the bottom of the page, which makes my complaints pointless. I must have been very tired or something. Sorry for wasting your time. Raoul Harris 08:59, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

- The reason given to remove the link to Linux-EduCD is that "Decided link to Polish page on Polish distribution probably isn't suitable for en.wikipedia.org". This decision is not founded IMO, but anyway, what was removed isn't just a link, it's also a mention of Linux-EduCD, which is currently not mentioned anymore. I'm reverting completely, but feel free to discuss removing the link if you still think it's inappropriate.--Chealer 18:54, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not too concerned about the link to Linux-EduCD, it's just that there is no English article on it (one should be created, but I can't translate the Polish so I can't create one) and it isn't particularly relevant. I'm not certain that we even need a list like that. There should probably be at category "Linux distributions aimed at educational use", because listing all the other educational distros is a bit of a waste of space in the article. As I said I'm not particularly bothered about this though. Raoul Harris 08:23, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- I agree that the list of educational distros shouldn't be in this article (unless it's in a template such as the *buntu one). Until someone volunteers to do this though, I think all mentions of other such distros should be kept, or should be removed.--Chealer 05:16, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Intro paragraph/homeschooling
"Its also great for homeschooling", the last sentence of the opening squibbit really bothers me. It doesn't match the tone of the anteceding paragraph, its not very encyclopedic, the choice of the adjective "great" is sensationalist but ambigous, and the "Its" should be "It's" because it's a contraction of "It is". I haven't changed anything because I'm a) A bit new to editing b) This strikes me as one of those articles where you talk about things first...maybe I'm wrong. Article renaming
Shouldn't this article be renamed to "Ubuntu Education Edition" considering it's not called Edubuntu anymore? --59.93.211.139 (talk) 15:40, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
- Not sure, their page refers to it as both. --Falcorian (talk) 22:32, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
