El Matador

[edit]

Says El Matador means The Bullfighter which is not the case- it means The Killer- the matador is the final bull fighter that delivers the death blow to the bull- that is the context within which he is called The Matador- not the Anglicised version- 2A00:23C4:7F91:8401:7016:8DA7:B810:DF3D (talk) 18:12, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. I've changed that. Thanks for pointing it out. Valenciano (talk) 20:44, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Édinson

[edit]

Shouldn't his name be Édinson? The pronunciation is obviously on the antepenultimate syllable in which case the accented vowel should be adorned with an acute. Splićanin (talk) 16:50, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

His name is whatever his parents called him on his birth certificate, whether that follows spelling and grammatical rules or not. Look what the parents of his contemporary Cristhian Stuani did to their boy's name. Unknown Temptation (talk) 21:10, 22 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's a terrible argument, especially when the pronunciation of Cristhian is absolutely intuitive and adhering to orthography. Splićanin (talk) 04:43, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's a terrible argument that you can't change someone's name because you think it's spelt wrong? You're going to go against how he spells his name, and how official sources spell his name, because of prescriptive grammatical rules? Please read WP:OR WP:V. Unknown Temptation (talk) 19:56, 7 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Let's just take a step back and remind everyone that the only terrible argument is yours, given that Cristhian is 100% intuitive and 100% conforming to orthography. What makes you think I'm eager to change Mr Cavani's name, either here or by knocking on a public notary's door in, say, Tacuarembo? I raised a simple question out of curiosity and the only answer I got is a couple of your swings-and-misses. Splićanin (talk) 04:22, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
