Quotes of possible interest
[edit]According to the Jon Stewart on his Daily Show, Sen. Cowan made comments about how the passage of the 14th Amendment would result in California being "overrun by a flood... of the Mongol race..." and that they people there would be "...immigrated out of of house and home by Chinese...", and also, "It is utterly and totally impossible to mingle all of the various families of men, from the lowest form of the Hottentot up to the highest Caucasian, in the same society." What say thee, Wikipedians? Sweetfreek (talk) 05:35, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- No disrespect intended to Mr. Stewart, but his is a comedy program, and we can't necessarily take everything he says at face value. I wouldn't rule out the possibility of his having been a Know-Nothing before the war, but I think we need better sources. Marktgordon (talk) 13:02, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
