Hardfish indian village

[edit]

Page:History of Iowa From the Earliest Times to the Beginning of the Twentieth Century Volume 3.djvu/486 indicates that current location of Eddyville was an indian village. Presume that would have been part of Mahaska's Iowa tribe. Anyone have further information? Iowajason (talk) 17:16, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This page indicates that english Hardfish was actually the name of the chief of the village, Chief Wish-e-co-ma-que. Wish-e-co-ma-que appears to have succeeded Black Hawk in 1838 as a leader of the Sac. Also indicates that the village as "as respectable in size as any of the other villages of the Sacs and Foxes." Public library has a photo of a memorial stone laid in 1937 to celebrate the centenary of the indian village. Iowajason (talk) 17:31, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Library's page also cites some early history. Iowajason (talk) 17:37, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Incorporated some of the previous content and updated history section. Iowajason (talk) 18:31, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
