Name
[edit]I was under the impression (though may be wrong) that the correct name for the airport on Eday is "London Airport". Naming the article Eday Airport might seem clearer, but that alone doesn't make it right. Graldensblud 18:02, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- The Civil Aviation Authority Licence for the aerodrome gives the name as Eday [1]. We should use the official name. MilborneOne 19:12, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
- In a lot of cases articles will be at the common name but calling this London Airport would be very confusing to readers. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 12:49, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
- MilborneOne: Official name acknowledged. Probably best.

- Incidentally, my statement to the effect of "official documents don't call it London to avoid confusion", was removed as un-cited (vaguely ironic given above discussion). They only had to ask for one on this page ?! Or flag it as an uncited comment... if someone goes around deleting every un-cited phrase in the Wikipedia, we'll have nothing left.Graldensblud 23:09, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry as I thought the statement was not true I removed it, the official documents dont call it London Airport because it is not the official name, nothing to do with confusion. The article body and infobox now state that London Airport is the local name. I notice that Loganair (the only operator listed as using the airport) call it Eday! MilborneOne 11:01, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Would it not be a good idea to have something in the article explaining why an airport on a Scottish island is called London Airport. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 17:15, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Put a bit in article about the proximity to the Bay of London.MilborneOne 19:32, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. That makes sense for the reader. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 22:55, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- I suspect that the Bay of London was so called because puffins bred there: Old Norse lundi means "puffin", Old Norse á Lundunum = "at the puffins". Anthony Appleyard (talk) 16:47, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
