Biography assessment rating comment
WikiProject Biography Assessment Drive
Meets criteria for B-rating though could have more detail, considering the length of Markey's career.

Bio and specifically career entries focus heavily on recent political positions and read like campaign literature. Given Sen. Markey's 40 years in Congress, some details on his earlier positions on issues would provide some balance. In particular the discussion of positions on energy fails to mention his early opposition to nuclear power in New England (see, for example: http://mobile.nytimes.com/1988/02/14/us/reactor-report-stirs-up-seabrook.html). This article needs more balance. Jmfreemaniii (talk) 15:26, 28 September 2019 (UTC)

Hahaha do you guys realize he's an old dude now: [1]
Might be time to update the ol'head shot from his Magnum PI days. 198.145.218.203 (talk) 00:14, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
Birth date
Need to be consistent on his birthdate. It says June 11, 1946 in two places in the article, but July 11, 1946 in the very first sentence of the article. Which is it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.95.173.67 (talk) 01:27, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Removal of military service details
I'm curious about the decision to remove the additions I made concerning Markey's military service. I think the details are relevant because he was accused of "draft dodging" during the Vietnam War. In addition, I can't be the only one who thinks it's worth noting that a Congressman about to be a Senator, the State Treasurer and the former Lieutenant Governor were all in the same Army Reserve unit at the same time.
Anyone else?
- I fully agree. The military service and reference to the others in the same unit should be part of this article.Whoisjohngalt (talk) 19:24, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

- The trouble was is that practically the whole paragraph was not properly referenced. Yes there were FIVE IC on the paragraph but none of them corroborated most of the details written. There is no doubt Markey was in the Army reserves, but the other details need to be sourced....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 18:56, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Christopher Soghoian
I ended up here from Christopher Soghoian, and discovered that this page was lacking any information relating to Markey's public statements on Soghoian. I've corrected this by adding a section titled 'Internet Security' (similar to the existing 'Internet Privacy' section). It is fully referenced and is as neutral as I can make it.
This seems to be what happened:
- Markey made some reactionary comments calling for Soghoian's arrest upon learning of the boarding pass generator website
- Soghoian was raided by the FBI
- Markey learned that he was a security researcher rather than a 'black-hat' and issued a statement retracting his call for arrest
It is clear that Markey didn't fully understand the (now fixed) exploit, as his 2nd statement mentions that it would allow potential access to the cabin of a passenger plane.
