6 April 2024 edit war

[edit]

I am trying to understand the current edit war.

  • 12:06, 5 April 2024 (UTC) "revert incorrect figure". This edit changed the GDP per capita from ₹182,373 to ₹141,373 for FY2024-25. The cited source said ₹141,373 for FY2022-23 at current prices. (Current prices are not inflation adjusted.)

  • 05:47, 6 April 2024 (UTC) (no edit summary). This edit reverted back to ₹182,373. The figure is not supported by the source, which does not give a figure for FY2024-25.

  • 08:25, 6 April 2024 (UTC) (no edit summary). This edit changed the incorrect label from "(2024-2025)" to ""(2021-2022)"; this was an error, it should have said "(2022-2023)"
  • 08:26, 6 April 2024 (UTC) (no edit summary). This edit reverted back to ₹182,373, which is not supported by the cited source.
  • 08:29, 6 April 2024 (UTC) (no edit summary). This edit changed the number to ₹190,302 and labelled it "(2024-2025)". it is not supported by the cited source.

What the sources say
  • [3] West Bengal Budget Analysis 2024-25 says: The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of West Bengal for 2024-25 (at current prices) is projected to be Rs 18.8 lakh crore, amounting to growth of 10.5% over 2023-24.
  • [4] West Bengal Budget Analysis 2022-23 says: The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of West Bengal for 2022-23 (at current prices) is projected to be Rs 17,13,154 crore. This is a growth of 11.5% over the revised estimate of GSDP for 2021-22 (Rs 15,36,681 crore). In 2021-22, GSDP is estimated to grow at 18.1% over the previous year (at current prices).
  • [5] State-wise Data on Per Capita Income, 24 Jul 2023 gives the "per capita net state domestic product at current prices" for West Bengal as
    • FY2020-21 1,06,510,
    • FY2021-22 1,24,798,
    • FY2022-23 1,41,373
Wikipedia article on the Economy of West Bengal
  • 11:57, 7 April 2024 (UTC) version
    • GDP ₹18.8 lakh crore (US$240 billion) (2024-25 est.)[3]
    • GDP growth 11.5% (2022-2023)[4]
    • GDP per capita ₹141,373 (US$1,800) (2022-2023)[5]
  • 06:53, 10 April 2024 (UTC) version
    • GDP ₹21.8 lakh crore (US$270 billion) (2024-25 est.)[3]
    • GDP growth 11.5% (2022-2023)[4]
    • GDP per capita ₹211,373 (US$2,600) (2024-2025)[5]

@Sweety943: it can be seen that your version of 06:53, 10 April 2024 is not supported by the source for GDP and GDP per capita, and therefore needs to be reverted.-- Toddy1 (talk) 07:24, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Replacing named references

[edit]

@Shubhrojeet: I have no objection to your edit of 05:19, 27 August 2024 (UTC) replacing February 2024 estimates for FY2024-25 with July 2023 estimates for FY2023-24. The reason you gave in your edit summary is sensible: FY 2024-25 is not over yet, no need to put future estimates.[reply]

But the concept of named references is that they are used at several places in the same article. And the definition is only in once. Your edit deleted the definition of <ref name="FRBM2024">, which caused errors.[1] I have fixed it.[2]

Whether this citation really supports some of the things it is cited for is another matter. An editor on 26 August spotted an instance where it was given as a citation but did not contain the cited information and corrected it.[3] There are probably more cases where that is true.-- Toddy1 (talk) 06:52, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Yes I have also noticed that earlier, about the false citation. For now I have just edited the per capita but I will go through the other parts as well. Shubhrojeet (talk) 07:08, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
