Economy SC in 1840

In the 1840s, the state was leaning toward economic decline. It was still reliant on cotton farming using enslaved labor. But, it had been surpassed by other Southern states (namely, Alabama and Mississippi) in the cotton trade. Until the late 1840s, the state was in economic doldrums caused by the Panic of 1837. However, during this time, economic diversification and industrialization began to rise as the state built railroads and mills. Muttnik talk 17:43, 3 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
