Marketing hype?
[edit]Good work in adding the stats on foreign visitors, but I have problems with this edit.[1] The reference is currently a 'cite error' but, from a quick Google, I think it must come fromthis article in the South Wales Echo. The story quotes a spokesman for VisitBritain as saying:
"Visitors told us that the attraction of Cardiff as a glorious capital city, with an historical resonance, was the reason for visiting. This tells us that they don’t have to go to London any more to get the flavour of a capital city."
I have grave doubts about quoting a marketing man in this context - after all this is an encyclopedia, not the Tourist Board. Maybe I'm being unreasonable, I'll ask a third opinion to judge.--Pondle (talk) 16:20, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- The first sentence might be ok, but the second sentence "This tells us that they don’t have to go to London any more to get the flavour of a capital city" has no reason for inclusion. I think it should be removed. You Can't Clap with One Hand (talk) 17:09, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
- You've misquoted making it appear less encyclopaedic than it actually is. The city is seen by many tourists “as a glorious capital city, with an historical resonance" and that one need not visit London any more "to get the flavour of a capital city,” according to a study by VisitBritain. This makes it very clear that this is the result of a study, and reasons cited by tourists for visiting the city. Were the statement unqualified and portrayed from an editor's POV such as You don't need to visit London any more to get the flavour of a capital city, that would clearly be unacceptable, but this is not the case. - I didn't misquote at all - the blockquoted section above is lifted directly from the article in the Echo (which I presume is the source for your edit).--Pondle (talk) 17:58, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
