[edit]The most controversial points of the article are surely these:
- Chief Investigator, Trooper John J. Holtz, was later found to have accepted $50,000 from author Joseph Wambaugh for information on the Reinert investigation. The money was provided on the condition that suspect Jay Smith be arrested.
I have found a source for these claims (http://www.pennlive.com/news/laughman/stories/laughman02.html) but:
- it is the only source which describes the payment as conditional upon Smith's arrest;
- most other sources say the amount paid by Wambaugh to Holtz was $45,000, not $50,000. They also note evidence of a payment of $50,000 from Wambaugh to Holtz for a similar purpose, explaining how confusion could have occurred.
I would recommend more investigation before treating this source as accurate. -- 209.6.177.176 (talk) 01:52, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
