Inappropriate page blanking/redirect

[edit]

There has been no discussion regarding deletion/redirect of this article. If there are issues with this page, please discuss here. Page blanking is disruptive to WP. Thanks. SW3 5DL (talk) 13:32, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes there has and it is here [1]. There was never consensus for these splits Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 13:45, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Except for Nigeria, they were not splits and have new content. Your using a re-direct to delete new content. Starstr (talk) 13:57, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, blanking the page and redirecting, especially without discussion, is disruptive. WRT the Nigeria article, it needs all fresh content and it can be put back. SW3 5DL (talk) 16:16, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So is creating forked articles without discussion. It's created a mess and the two editors directly above me are essentially the only voices in favour of having 6 or 7 articles. That is disruption as well. Content can be merged, or trimmed because it is excessive detail. - Floydian τ ¢ 16:29, 3 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Map for lede

[edit]

I think it might be informative for the reader if we had a map like the one here that shows the exact area and updates the casualty count. What do others think? Anybody up for putting that together? SW3 5DL (talk) 14:50, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

S.L. Schooling..

[edit]

I found two similar articles relating to the Schooling of S.L. school going population, also in the articles is a bit more info that i just did not know how or where to include.. However i have started by including some details into the 'Concurrent Events' section.. If a more experienced editor could expand on these... thanks.. Gremlinsa (talk) 08:53, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

An epidemic of maps...

[edit]

Are all these maps really necessary? It seems like an attempt to bulk up the article and looks rather bad and repetitive. I think one would suffice... the last one. (I'd remove them, but someone would just put them back in and we'd end up here anyway.) – JBarta (talk) 00:51, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Probably best to just keep the last one. SW3 5DL (talk) 03:24, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Agree.. just keep the last one... Gremlinsa (talk) 11:38, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Removed. – JBarta (talk) 20:41, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

The Popular culture section was removed from the EVD in WA page, and it is only fitting to reinsert it in the individual country pages, The items were transposed over, however the section will require expansion into what is specific to each region/country.. I'm placing this identical notice on all 3 country pages Gremlinsa (talk) 08:48, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No, it is more fitting to remove it per WP:TRIVIA. It's also fitting to discuss this on one page instead of three. - Floydian τ ¢ 11:43, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Flo is correct. Trivia sections just grow and grow...it gets to the point that anything goes 'cause well the other stuff is pretty stupid too... (I watch over Blue moon and I just let that one grow, but it's a fun topic...this one is not.) Gandydancer (talk) 20:55, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've spent quite some time reworking the Popular Culture section into a Other Works derived from the Ebola crisis section, as well as a short West African Myths about ebola. Most item have multiple source's, including WHO, and some even have a link/feed to the track itself... Is this now worth reinserting to this article?? Gremlinsa (talk) 08:56, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Now its a bigger mess. Its the same trivial facts spread across three pages. The sourcing is nice, but the info is still WP:TRIVIA and doesn't belong here. Please remove it. - Floydian τ ¢ 16:49, 15 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Poorly maintained page.

[edit]

This page is very poorly maintained by it's editors. In one place 5 reference to one source. Unnamed sources. Poorly sourced material. Now popertimeeline or case loads to date.. Pleas Editors do a better job.. It shames Wiki.. 41.13.80.99 (talk) 19:25, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

At Wikipedia, "Editors" is everyone, so please consider helping. Help:Editing is a good place to start learning if necessary. Art LaPella (talk) 19:30, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It does shame WP. There has been agreement on the main page to not include the similar background medical info in each individual page, so I'm going to go ahead and delete it. Gandydancer (talk) 21:01, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully with the ANI reaching some sort of resolution this page will develop to meet WP standards. Also as this is a current event, details change daily, which does add to the difficulty.. Gremlinsa (talk) 18:43, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Gremlinsa RfC closed as no consensus default to keep. Looks like we keep, at least for now. SW3 5DL (talk) 23:42, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
\o/.. that at least means we got time to update without harassment... I've started with a few things, and I see others have been digging in too... Lets all see what we can manage with these W.A. country pages in a week... Gremlinsa (talk) 06:02, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Switching pic and info box.

[edit]

Hi Starstr i just switch the info box and pic around in line with the other articles.. hope it is fine with you.. Greetings Brian BrianGroen (talk) 18:14, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings, and thanks for working on article. The only issue I saw was that it was taken from the section on Kenema, and that name was highlighted. It was to show where Kenema was in that section, so I changed it to a more generic map choice. Cheers Starstr (talk) 14:52, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Same story all over....

[edit]

Matter of minutes after I put the current events tag up Floydian reverts it out... I put the TAG UP, because I'm CURRENTLY working on the article..... and sometimes my edits need minor repetitive formatting edits..

BUT seen as you feel like you know better, go do better..... Gremlinsa (talk) 06:36, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That's not what it's for. Use {{under construction}} for that. - Floydian τ ¢ 06:43, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Floydian is right (except for the "waaa", obviously.) My experience with {{in use}} (similar to "under construction") is that people won't notice and will edit anyway. But "current events" means something else. Art LaPella (talk) 06:55, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
AFIK this is a current event as listed Category:Current events... and should get the appropriate tag...Gremlinsa (talk) 07:01, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't find anything else at Category:Current events with that tag, perhaps because its instructions say "less than a day, or occasionally longer, but not several weeks". But even if you do use the tag here, it surely isn't used "because I'm CURRENTLY working on the article" according to its instructions; that's the "under construction" or "in use" template (ya gotta admit he's got a point there at least). Art LaPella (talk) 07:35, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm - EVD in USA used here and is still on the page as of now, or even at this time.. and to quote

The current event template may be used to warn the editor or reader about the great flux of edits and the fast-changing state of the article, due to the fact that current events tend to get the most attention from editors. In such a case, the template is subject to removal when the event described is no longer receiving massive editing attention.

I was Busy with edits when the template was reverted out... I was also planning to restructure much of the pages, as i had already done near the top, However FLOYDIAN swoops in and KILLS the Africa pages AGAIN... USA page has not been busy for 4 HOURS and yet the template sits there very happy.. I dont see anyone fighting over should or should not be tagged as such there..... Floydian Why have you not gone and pulled the Current tag of the USA page yet, edits are stale there, and its just as not a current event as is this page??? Gremlinsa (talk) 12:32, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't notice it there. I went and removed it from all the other pages, just missed that one. - Floydian τ ¢ 15:29, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Well that's the one that I did not put up... I hope you see now why we feeling like this..... Gremlinsa (talk) 17:46, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yet another hour of Editting time wasted because of Stupid revert talk... I'm trying to bring these articles up to standard, as are a few other editors, however the last constructive edit Floydian's done is the Nav box over 10 days ago, since then its been all talk and revert/undo... PLEASE Contribute or leave alone...Gremlinsa (talk) 07:20, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gremlinsa, I'm AGFing here, but it looks like his intention is to waste your time. SW3 5DL (talk) 13:26, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I wish i could assume the same... I'd love to stalk his edits, and pick them apart for any minor thing.. Thing is that's just not me, I'm gona give him all the rope he wants.. Every time he stalks my posts, I'll Mention/Complain/Defend in the talk pages.. and when time comes, I'll have plenty of proof of Trolling while been civil myself... One thing i will say, is I was an idiot to not use the Full Summary space and put "Added current events tag, while i rewrite half the article, reformat the other half, and rearrange all the pictures and update the stats in this current events article. I will take the tag down in about 2 hours time, once i've completed my task.. please do not troll me " instead of "Current Events" hoping that a troll will understand and see that i'm busy with the article.. Gremlinsa (talk) 13:56, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Gremlinsa, a word of caution on that edit summary bit. Avoid saying 'trolling.' Other editors will recognize what is being done, but calling it that will get you in trouble down the line. I do understand your frustration. You've done an excellent job here despite the continuing disruption. Now the articles are a 'keep' perhaps other editors will come along to help. Of course, you can use the edit summaries to describe what you're trying to accomplish with your edit, as long as it remains civil, and don't comment on the editor in any way. Just the edit. SW3 5DL (talk) 15:48, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Also, Gremlinsa, one other bit, you can say, "Please stop hounding me on the talk page and please stop stalking my edits,' if you can show what you mean with diffs. SW3 5DL (talk) 16:00, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
ROFL... I'd never put all that up as a summary.. was simply venting (hope not too harshly) about the frustration of having this constant reversion happen while trying to work on a page.. relaxing a little tonight while waiting for the movie, and checking in.. However tomorrow (27 oct) I will try doing some work at about the same time (06:00 UCT) on the pages again... ( without tagging them first)... Gremlinsa (talk) 17:39, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@ SW3, you really should not be the the one to criticize Floyd since you had not worked on the Guinea article for days and yet within minutes of when I began to edit the article you were there deleting everything I had done even though I had placed a talk page note saying I was going to be working on the article and saying my work was in process on my edit summaries. Gandydancer (talk) 14:02, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Gandydancer , if you'll note I edited the Guinea article after the close of the RfC. And I believe there are diffs aplenty to show I've stated it seemed a time-sink to improve an article that might not be kept down the road. My editing here has got nothing to do with you're editing history. Thanks. SW3 5DL (talk) 15:48, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
How are you assuming good faith by determining that my intention is to waste others time? Perhaps my intention is to keep the articles from looking trashy. I have all the ebola articles watchlisted (in addition to 5000 other pages), so what appears like stalking is just me monitoring every edit. - Floydian τ ¢ 15:13, 24 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
We trying to AGF, it's a little difficult when your not AGF.. also given that its within minutes that you were there reverting... You could have left the tag alone for a while especially when you saw my nick on the update, and watched what I was up to, considering the tag had not been put up on any of the pages before, and you should by now realize that I'm one of those trying to keep these pages and asking that others give us a break to do the work to get them upto sratch... Gremlinsa (talk) 17:39, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think trying to AGF includes taking Floydian's story at face value: he responded to what the current events template actually means, according to its instructions. He had no reason to confuse it with the under construction template. Art LaPella (talk) 18:22, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Quick Notice

[edit]

Taking in what Art LaPella and Floydian have said here, and because the page has only had 2 edits in the past 5 hours... I've removed the current events tag from Ebola virus disease in the United_States with reference to this discussion... Lets see how long it takes to be trolled ??? maps

[edit]

This map seems like it could go without any problem. But best to ask first. Thanks.

Port Loko District, Bombali District, and Moyamba District were added to the quarantine on September 25, 2014.

Images/ Maps removed -

I'm listing images i've removed here in case someone wants to return one of them in an appropriate place..

I've sorted some of the info and images, however the lede does not read quite right... Could someone look into it and perhaps write up a better one.. (or fix the current one)....Gremlinsa (talk) 06:54, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

American Doctor infected in SL Now identified..

[edit]

I'm just not quite sure if this doctor here, is the same doctor evacuated here.. On WP it says "In late September 2014, an American doctor working in Sierra Leone was evacuated to Maryland, USA, after being exposed to Ebola." however in the latest news article he was treated in "Atlanta"... Are these talking about the same Doc, or are we missing one ?? GremlinSA 08:38, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

'Culture' sections move to new page..

[edit]

I've taken on the Ebola culture page (now Cultural effects of the Ebola crisis) and will be migrating some of the Local conspiracy theories and Local works derived from the Ebola crisis into that article, so as to tidy up this side a little... NOTE: i will not be removing them from here completely, but trimming down on some of the excess info, that will be available on the new page. GremlinSA 12:36, 9 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Confounding factors

This section does not include information on the slowness of the rest of the world—'led' by the 'West'—to react. Only when cases of US and EU citizens becoming infected came to light did the media and politicians of the 'West' actually think about doing something—GRM (talk) 09:40, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
