Eilean Eisdeal
[edit]A development trust is a kind of social enterprise as you can see if you look at the link. This status is confirmed by the citation and has nothing to do with the organisation's charitable status (which could be added as additional information if it is relevant, which I doubt). Please look carefully before removing cited material. Thanks. Ben MacDui 07:58, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Etymology
[edit]Haswell-Smith does note the "waterfall+valley" idea, which would provide a citation. I am not sure if this counts as folk etymology but it is clearly an unlikely derivation. I don't beleive I have seen anything else but I will have a look round asap. Ben MacDui 08:03, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- I've not found anything at a quick glance either. It just looks very odd. For one thing, I'm fairly certain it has long /eː/ and also, if eas and dail merged, you'd expect easdail, not eisdeal. It's not impossble, just... odd. I'll keep looking too. Akerbeltz (talk) 10:18, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Still looking but looks good so far (what you added). Do you know which page of Monro that's on cause it looks like font confusion for *Eisdealle Akerbeltz (talk) 13:35, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Ah found it, page 10. Hm you're right. Odd. Akerbeltz (talk) 13:37, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Just idle speculation for now but Mac an Tàilleir has Glen Ashdale on Arran as Gleann Éisdeal (glen of the ash-trees). Akerbeltz (talk) 13:40, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Nice one, thanks for your help! Akerbeltz (talk) 14:24, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
