States the current article, ignoring the long history of ground anchors. For most of this history ground anchors were created by burying an object, typically a large log or tree trunk. An anchor so created was called a deadman, indicating other objects may have been buried. Since writing the above I have discovered that deadmen are described in Wikipedia. In the article "Guy-wire", perhaps this information should be moved here. See also article "Guyed Masts".

"An earth anchor is a device designed to support structures" states the current article, correctly. But it is not its only use. It is also used to move objects; like vehicles stuck in mud or trees which will not fall. AnnaComnemna (talk) 10:14, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
