1963 and all that
[edit]- By virtue of the title of Baron Wigan of Haigh Hall, the Earls of Crawford and Balcarres sat in the House of Lords until the passage of the Peerage Act 1963.
That's a wee bit misleading, it implies that they lost that seat in 1963. As I misunderstand, in 1963 the right to a seat in the Lords was extended to the Peerage of Scotland (ending the elections of representative peers that had gone on since 1707), so the earl continued to sit but as an earl, not that it made any difference of which I'm aware. —Tamfang (talk) 22:55, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
