I removed the link to MediaFire in the "See also" section since 1. MediaFire is not mentioned in the page and 2. is not similar to ES File Explorer - an App specializing in file management, but rather MediaFire is a "file hosting, file synchronization, and cloud storage service" [1] and file upload and sharing app "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mediafire.android&hl=en_US" Jdmumma (talk) 00:42, 12 July 2020 (UTC)
- I agree. Link to the edit you made: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=ES_File_Explorer&action=historysubmit&type=revision&diff=967232562&oldid=967200342 --User123o987name (talk) 02:01, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
ES File Explorer zip encryption
[edit]ES File Explorer can make encrypted files:
- .eslock - apparently this can be decrypted without a password, see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsxEu2D2O_E and https://www.quora.com/How-can-I-decrypt-an-encrypted-ES-explorer-file-without-the-password
- .zip - might have a government backdoor and be decrypted without a password
It is pure speculation on my part that zip files encrypted with ES File Explorer can be decrypted without a password, but it is a question worth asking. Can the encryption of this sorta sketchy consumer-tier-crap Chinese app really be trusted (assuming the encryption is protected by an actually good password)? --User123o987name (talk) 02:01, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, pure, unwarranted and wrong speculation here. A ZIP file is a ZIP file, it does not matter what app/program you use to create it. Any back doors are only in your head. ;) Try better next time! :) Naki (talk) 17:30, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
comment
[edit]ES explorer does not claim to encrypt data for you, the feature is called 'Hide List', and offering password protection, but doesn't do much more than renaming. Zip passwords, see comment already given. The program does call home though, e.g. to estrongs.com and baidu.com, and is opening listening ports without user interaction (as could be using the built in ftp server (remote manager), resulting in a legit listening port, by default on :3721) 79.116.77.116 (talk) 23:51, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
