The correct title

[edit]

There is a mistake, EPTV means Établissement public de télévision and Télévision Algérienne means the first Algerian channel, when we search through Google or other "Télévision Algérienne" we show the list of programs that have been shown on this network, the most correct is to show us the card to the right of the screen containing the creation date, owner, the tv shows and People also search for.--Boumediene15 (talk) 09:00, 27 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Naming issue

[edit]

@Boumediene15: Hi! It's time to find a final solution to the EPTV's first channel naming issue. I mean by "final" that there will not be title changes after we've found a solution, and that we will expend the conventional title on other wikis, including Arabic and French Wikipedia. Please answer in this page, and not on my talk page or yours.

Problem

[edit]

Algeria's first television channel was created in 1956, under the name 'RTA Télévision Alger' (RTA Television Algiers), and was changed after the independence of the country, in 1962, to 'RTA Télévision' (RTA Television). But since 1986, we're not sure about the exact name of the network.

We can find in Arabic:

  • التلفزيون الجزائري (Algerian Television)
  • القناة الأرضية (Terrestrial Channel).

And in French, we can find:

  • ENTV
  • EPTV
  • ENTV Terrestre
  • EPTV Terrestre
  • Télévision algérienne (Algerian Television)
  • Chaîne terrestre (Terrestrial Channel)
  • Programme national (National Program).

Discussion of the different titles

[edit]
  • التلفزيون الجزائري and Télévision algérienne both mean Algerian Television in English. We can see it in the logos of the 1st, 4th and 5th channels of EPTV. So, it doesn't refer only to the 1st channel, but also to the 4th (Chaîne 4) and 5th (Coran TV) channels. It is also used in Arabic (التلفزيون الجزائري) to refer to the company that owns it, the Public Establishment of Television.
  • القناة الأرضية and Chaîne terrestre both mean Terrestrial Channel. We can say that it is the official name, because it is the one used by channel itself, when advertising to its programs. You can check that by watching it or some of its videos on YouTube.
  • ENTV (Entreprise nationale de télévision) is an outdated name, changed in 1991 to EPTV (Établissement public de télévision). See below.
  • EPTV, an abbreviation of Établissement public de télévision, is the current title of the English Wikipedia article. You said that it is rather used to refer to the company then the channel. I agree with you.
  • ENTV Terrestre and EPTV Terrestre are colloquial names for the channel used by some French-language media, but are not official names and have not equivalents in Arabic, the language used on it. ENTV Terrestre being also outdated.
  • Programme national, translated as National Program is an official name, but is only used for the satellite version of it (the one broadcast on Eutelsat) and not for the terrestrial channel.

Conclusion

[edit]
  • التلفزيون الجزائري / Télévision algérienne is refused because it has several meanings.
  • ENTV is refused because it is outdated.
  • EPTV is refused because it refers to the company (Établissement public de télévision).
  • ENTV Terrestre and EPTV Terrestre are refused because they are used only by some media and are not official, the 1st is also outdated.
  • Programme national is refused because it is only used to refer to its satellite version.

The name القناة الأرضية in Arabic or Chaîne terrestre is the official one, and then the suitable title for Wikipedia article. Since we're in English Wikipedia, we will use the English translation of the name, which is Terrestrial Channel. The rest of names will serve as redirects.

What do you think? I'm waiting for your answer to rename the article one last time. Thank you, カビル (talk) 18:50, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@PRehse: Please stop undoing without discussion. カビル (talk)
Hi @カビル:, I also want to find a final solution to the naming issue, and I think the method of dialogue and debate is the appropriate solution.

As for the logo: it is true that we can find it in the first channel, the fourth and fifth. As for channel 5, I do not think there is a problem because under the logo is written (قناة القران الكريم, the Quran channel), which is the widely used name, but sometimes Channel 5 is used to denote the channel because it 's the fifth channel of the Public Establishment of Television, and because the name used in the satellite version is TV 5. For the fourth channel we find the first channel logo with the number 4, but the official name is Tamazight TV, sometimes Channel 4 refer to the satellite version where the name used is Tv 4.

  • We can not name the network as ENTV, EPTV, ENTV Terrestre, EPTV Terrestre, Programme national, and the reasons as you mentioned.
  • التلفزيون الجزائري in Arabic or Télévision Algérienne in French (Algerian Television in English) is the official name. As you know, this network is the first in Algeria (since 1956), and even if the official name was then R.T.F. Télévision Alger (means: R.T.F. Algiers Television) but many people call it Terrestrial Channel because it was the only network in Algeria until 1994 and it was transmitted through the terrestrial system. That is, the name Terrestrial Channel can not be accepted, because since 2011 the network has also been transmitted via the satellite.
  • You said in the conclusion that the name التلفزيون الجزائري / Télévision algérienne can not be accepted because it has several meanings, but in my opinion the name of the Terrestrial Channel several more meanings.
  • Through my view of the network, I saw some ads for some summer festivals and at the end of each announcement it is mentioned (... this demonstration with the contribution of التلفزيون الجزائري(Algerian television) ...) and not the Terrestrial Channel, this is more evidence that التلفزيون الجزائري (Algerian Television) is the official name.

Conclusion

[edit]
  • التلفزيون الجزائري (Algerian Television) in Arabic is the official name, the appropriate language for translation is French. So Télévision Algérienne is the appropriate name. Cordially.--Boumediene15 (talk) 09:39, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
