Death sentence appeal has ambiguous sentence
[edit]It's unclear what "the federal government opposed appeals saying that Roof was properly convicted..." means in the following sentence:
"A day prior, attorneys for the federal government opposed appeals saying that Roof was properly convicted and sentenced saying that there is "no need to revisit" the facts for which Roof was found guilty.[170]"
It reads as if Roof's appeal argued that Roof was was properly convicted. The entire sentence is also a run-on.
Some punctuation would help, along with breaking the sentence into two shorter sentences, e.g.
"A day prior, attorneys for the federal government opposed Roof's appeals, arguing that he was properly convicted and sentenced. The Federal attorneys also said that there was "no need to revisit" the facts for which Roof was found guilty.[170]" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 157.131.152.222 (talk) 00:35, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

The part about him being interested in marijuana is a weird anti marijuana plug. Why did they put that "he even spent money on it". This a weird political misrepresentation. 2601:901:8100:24B:4479:FFAC:F455:1A45 (talk) 10:16, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 10:57, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
Were?
[edit]"A former high school classmate said that despite Roof's racist comments, some of his friends in school were black." Are these people who were his friends not black anymore? Not trolling or intending to be ethnically prejudiced. Just questioning the tense of this sentence. 208.69.184.110 (talk) 21:43, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
- they're former friends so it would be correct to use the word were Elizzaflanagan221 (talk) 04:58, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
