Nvvchar, I will be engaging in a thorough and comprehensive review of this article by the end of this week. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns in the meantime. Thanks! -- West Virginian (talk) 08:17, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
Nvvchar, due to the length of this article, I'll be completing my review in phases. I apologize for the further delay, but would like to take my time to ensure that I am as thorough as possible. Upon my initial review of the article, it looks like it is in very good shape for promotion to Good Article status! -- West Virginian (talk) 17:45, 11 September 2015 (UTC)

Lede and overall
- Per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section, the lede of this article stands alone as a concise overview and summary of the article. The lede defines the city of Dwarka, establishes context for the city of Dwarka, explains why the city of Dwarka is notable, and summarizes the most important points of the history of Dwarka.
- Per Wikipedia:Alternative text for images, it is suggested that all images in this article have an alt caption describing the images, especially for situations where the image is not available to the reader or where a user is using a screen reader due to visual impairment.
- The image of the Dwarka coast is licensed CC BY-SA 4.0, so it is therefore acceptable for use here.
- The info box is beautifully formatted and its content is cited by verifiable references within the article's main prose.
- The map of Gujarat is licensed CC BY-SA 3.0 and is suitable for inclusion in this article.
- Rather than "Gujarat state" it may be more appropriate to render this "state of Gujarat" for better flow.
- Done
- Is "the Gomti creek" known by the formal name of "Gomti Creek?" If so, we should render this, "on the right bank of Gomti Creek." It would also be preferable to provide a cardinal direction versus left or right.
- Corrected
- Is Dwarka "believed to have been" the first capital of Gujarat or has it been "assessed to have been" the first capital. If there is evidence to support this, I would change this to assessed, but if it merely a belief, this is good as is.
- It is a belief hence no chnage is required
- Consider rephrasing "The Dwarkadhish Temple dedicated to Krishna, located in Dwarka was originally built around 2,500 years ago but was destroyed by the Mughal rulers, and then was rebuilt in the 16th century." as "The city's Dwarkadhish Temple dedicated to Krishna was originally built around 2,500 years ago, but was destroyed by Mughal rulers and subsequently rebuilt in the 16th century."
- Thanks. Done
- What language is peeth? I'm assuming it's Hindi or Sanskrit. If so, this should be notated in the translation parentheses.
- Clarified
- Consider re-rendering "The temple town famous as pilgrimage centre for Hindus has important temples, such as the Rukmini Devi Temple, the Gomti Ghat and its temples, and the Beyt Dwarka." to "As an important pilgrimage center for Hindus, Dwarka has several notable templates including Rukmini Devi Temple, the temples of Gomti Ghat, and the Beyt Dwarka."
- Incorporated
- At the beginning of the third sentence, I would rephrase the first sentence as "Dwarka's economy relies heavily on pilgrims and tourism, but it supplemented by the production of millets, ghee (clarified butter), oilseeds, and salt, which are also transported from its port." I hope this doesn't change the meaning. If so, feel free to amend as necessary. I would also wiki-link ghee, millets, and oilseeds for those readers that are unfamiliar with these products.
- Done
- Who proposed the long-term development plan? Is this a city or regional initiative?
- It was proposed by the Government of Gujarat. Made suitable change.
- Per MOS:CURRENCY, an amount in rupees should be rendered "₹," in this case: "₹830 million" You can also wiki-link the first usage of the "₹" symbol to Indian rupee.
- Done
- Perhaps change "Dwarka has been chosen as one of the heritage cities for HRIDAY - Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana scheme of Government of India." to "Dwarka was selected as one of the heritage cities by the Indian government's Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) initiative."
- Done
- The lede is well-written, its contents are cited below within the text, the references are verifiable, and I have no further comments or suggestions for this section.
- Nvvchar, I've finished my first round of review for this article. Please let me know if you have any further comments or questions in the meantime. Thanks! -- West Virginian (talk) 17:45, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the detailed review and suggestions. Compliance is reported above.Nvvchar. 05:04, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- Nvvchar, thank you for addressing all the above comments and concerns. The lede looks good to go. I will be reviewing the next few sections later today. -- West Virginian (talk) 15:14, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- I just recategorized this nomination from the Geography subtopic to the Places subtopic (this review page is unaffected). Also, as the recent flurry of edits has added an empty "Sports" section, that will need to be written before the article can be listed. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:16, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BlueMoonset: Sports section has been completed.--Nvvchar. 04:58, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- @BlueMoonset:, thank you for the re-categorization and for suggesting the reintroduction of the sports and recreation section. And Nvvchar, thank you for including it! -- West Virginian (talk) 15:14, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
@West Virginian: I've given it a copyedit and made some minor additions. It is possible you could check a few of the sources for verification purposes, just to ensure that the sourcing is sound?♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:04, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
- Dr. Blofeld, I'll be engaging in this review in phases, so of course I will thoroughly check sources for verifiability and quality as I go along. Standby for further comments and thanks again! -- West Virginian (talk) 15:14, 12 September 2015 (UTC)
Further comments
- Nvvchar and Dr. Blofeld, I've provided a few more comments as I've continued my review and copyedit of the article. I will continue reviewing the article tomorrow, but so far, the sources cited in the article's prose are sound, verifiable, and seem to be reliable sources, with the exception of the Wikimapia citation that I mention below. -- West Virginian (talk) 02:32, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- I provided a copyedit to the "Ancient history" subsection, but I wonder if this section should be renamed "Mythological history" or "Mythology" as most of "historical" events mentioned involve Krishna.
- Yes, renamed as "Mythological history".
- Per Wikipedia:Alternative text for images, it is suggested that all images in this article have an alt caption describing the images, especially for situations where the image is not available to the reader or where a user is using a screen reader due to visual impairment.
- I would strongly recommend nominating this article at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests for a further copyedit to improve the article's overall flow.
- Yes, nominating on GOC
- I've also provided a copyedit to the remainder of the "History" section and to the "Geography" section.
- I would recommend changing the "Geography" section's name to "Geography and climate" and then have "Geography" and "Climate" subsections.
- Done
- In the sentence "It is a producer of agricultural produce such as millets, ghee (clarified butter), oilseeds, and salt, which are transported from its port" I would also wiki-link these items as they are wiki-linked above in the lede.
- Done
- "It is conjectured that this temple location is 2,500 years old where Lord Krishna had built his city and a temple. However, the existing temple is dated to 16th century" needs a citation in the "Landmarks" section.
- Reference fixed as substantial part of the text was transferred to the Dwarakadisha Temple article.
- The last paragraph of the "Culture" section should be its own subsection entitled "Sports and recreation."
- Done
- Citation 42 to Wikimapia is not a reliable source, and another one should be found.
- Can not find any better reference, hence text deleted.
- Thanks @West Virginian: I have complied to all the above review observations, and also posted the article for GOC.Nvvchar. 05:15, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- Nvvchar, I've completed my review of this article and find that it is the most comprehensive article or write-up out there regarding Dwarka. The article in its current form meets Good Article status, but I think a further copyedit would be good for the article's overall flow. Please take a look at my edits and let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Congratulations on a job well done! -- West Virginian (talk) 20:28, 13 September 2015 (UTC)
- @West Virginian:. Thanks for all the additional edits. I fully agree with all of them. Kindly leave a message of this upgrade on my talk page as there is no mention there so far. I have posted it on GOC for any additional review. This is one of the four most religious Dhams in the country.Nvvchar. 01:59, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
- @Nvvchar:, I apologize for the GA Notice not being placed on your talk page earlier, so I've just remedied that. Again, thank you for all your hard work on this article, especially given this city's religious significance! -- West Virginian (talk) 08:13, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
