Edit needed
[edit]Article needs to be edited to reflect death of co-founder Dane Boersma. I'll see if I can't get around to it soon, but if someone else wanted to make that happen in the meantime, it'd be greatly appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skittllz (talk • contribs) 00:07, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
- Someone dealt with that at some point. 72.244.206.6 (talk) 01:56, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
No longer tagged with COI and tone issue
[edit]I copy-edited the article to address legitimate COI and tone issues raised last year. The article still needs references. 72.244.206.6 (talk) 01:56, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
- I believe the citation issues are now resolved, as well as the advertorial tone. As the previous editor also feels the tone was addressed, I will remove that notation. I couldn't find independent citations for some of Dutch Bros' declarations of their donation amounts, however, I did find enough to support the claim the company is committed to supporting not-for-profits in the community. As an independent company, any claims of number of employees and earnings is by nature self-reported. Thus I removed the broken links. GreatFood4All (talk) 01:26, 27 July 2018 (UTC)
Logo image needs cropping and editing
[edit]I added Image:Dutch Bros. Coffee (2869850734).jpg as the logo. Perhaps someone could replace that image with a derived version that is cropped and edited for brightness and contrast. 72.244.206.6 (talk) 02:04, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Hello and small request
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi! I'm Hillary and I'm part of the Dutch Bros communications team. Due to my conflict of interest, I'm aware that I should not make any edits to the Dutch Bros page and that I should always disclose this financial connection. Before I go any further, I want to acknowledge that I've only recently learned about the conflict of interest guidelines and Terms of Use. I edited the page in the past (my edit was reverted) when I didn't know but will no longer do so, and I'll use requests instead.
My first request is hopefully very easy! Thanks so much to editors who had updated the page following our IPO, which fixed a lot of the figures in the company infobox. However, the revenue still needs to be updated. Please can this be edited as follows:
- US$327.4 million million (FY 2020)[1]
The source for this is our S-1 filed with the SEC, and it has also been reported in the media. This was an increase compared with FY 2019 revenues.
If there are any questions about this requested edit, please let me know! Thanks! Hillaryjbrown (talk) 17:02, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

- Thanks so much for your help! I have some more ideas on how to improve the page and plan to propose more edits in the near future. Would you be willing to take a look at them, when the time comes? Hillaryjbrown (talk) 03:30, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Requesting History edits and expansion
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello again! Moving on from my request above, I wanted to address the page's History section. The current content is a little messy and it's missing many significant events from Dutch Bros' history. Since there's been a lot written about the company, I wanted to suggest filling the section out with well-sourced claims and give it a cleaner, chronological structure. My main updates are:
- Removing factoids that don't really belong in a History section (types of drinks served, the Undercover Boss mention, etc.)
- Improving sourcing on existing relevant information
- Including more details on Dutch Bros' early history. This part is almost completely rewritten so does need close review
- Organizing the section into three subsections, keeping details chronological
- Adding a subsection about the company's expansion throughout the early 2000s and 2010s
- Providing more background in terms of significant events leading up to the company’s September 2021 IPO
The whole draft of what I have in mind is on my user page. I would paste it here, but it’s pretty long, so I thought I’d put it in a place where it’s easier to edit.
Is anybody able to review this? If editors would like to begin with just the Early history portion, that may be an easy way to dive in.
To confirm my disclosure: I work for Dutch Bros and have a financial conflict of interest. Thanks! Hillaryjbrown (talk) 01:09, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hey there User:I Am Chaos, thank you again for your help with the update to the revenue figure. I posted this new request last month to fill out the history section and thought you might be interested in taking a look? If you’re not or it's too much work, no worries. Just thought I'd check in with you first before I looked for help elsewhere. Thank you, Hillaryjbrown (talk) 02:19, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hey User:SJ Morg, I saw that you recently made some copy edits and added a line updating the number of Dutch Bros store locations. Thanks for sprucing up the page! I proposed a History draft on my user page back in October and I still need some help getting it approved. I have a COI, so I know I shouldn't make changes to the History myself. Would you be interested in looking the draft over? I would really appreciate it. Cheers! Hillaryjbrown (talk) 17:51, 27 December 2021 (UTC)
- Sorry, @Hillaryjbrown:, but I have no interest in this subject, and the only reason I made a small edit to the article recently is that I happened across an article in my local newspaper that included some significant stats that were not in the WP article, and especially that I discovered the company had enough annual revenue to qualify for inclusion in the Oregon-based companies navbox. I have a long list of WP editing I am always trying to find time to do on subjects that do interest me, so I'm afraid it's a no. Sorry. SJ Morg (talk) 06:44, 28 December 2021 (UTC)

I have read the article and the proposed expanded history section, and am pleased that compared to some other business articles it does not seem to be tainted with an advertorial tone. though I randomly clicked a reference or two, I did not do a thorough review. My one concern is that the article as it already stands seems to overly emphasize the history, and the expansion would make that imbalance worse. I'm not familiar with corporate article enough to know what else should be included besides history. Thank you for your effort and especially for the forthright disclosure of COI. YBG (talk) 12:59, 19 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hey, User:YBG! Thanks so much for taking a look at my draft. I agree with you that the current version of the page is pretty history-heavy. I put together this revised History section to fix what already exists on the page, but I do have plans to propose new sections on the company's business model and operations, which contain details about Dutch Bros' leadership structure, how it trains its employees, and how its stores operate. Basically, I see this History fix as the first part of an overall improvement of the page.
- Let me know if that clears things up, and if you would be interested in conducting a more thorough review of my proposed History section. Thanks again! Hillaryjbrown (talk) 03:39, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hey again User:IAmChaos, sorry to bug but I've not yet been able to get this request completed and wondered if you could help. One editor (User:YBG) has already reviewed and was complimentary about the draft. Is this something you'd have time to help with? Also, for both of you to reference, I've put drafts for Business model and Operations in my user space, so you can see what I'm thinking for the rest of the page to balance the History. Cheers! Hillaryjbrown (talk) 00:12, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
- @Hillaryjbrown: could you suggest some negative information about your company which would be good for us to include? What sort of scandals and issues has the company encountered? Horse Eye's Back (talk) 01:38, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, @Hillaryjbrown:, i don't really do writing or major edits like what your proposing, but I do see that another editor has already started to reply since you pinged me, so if you may want to work with them, that would be great. Sorry, Happy Editing--IAmChaos 05:41, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response, User:IAmChaos. Sorry to hear you can't help here, but I wish you good luck with your editing. I'm happy to work with User:Horse Eye's Back on this. As far as I'm aware there are no major controversies involving Dutch Bros, and I looked into this as I was working on the draft. A few years ago, we recalled some promotional glasses that were given to customers for watching the solar eclipse when there was a question about the ISO compliance certification. This was a very brief issue (and we weren't alone at the time in facing this kind of thing, as the CNN piece I've linked mentions). As well, you can find a few local pieces here and there about traffic or other issues at individual Dutch Bros locations. Again, these aren't major criticisms or controversies for the company. If you search Google for "dutch bros criticism" you can find some reviews critical of Dutch Bros coffee or mixed drinks, which are primarily on sites like Yelp that I don't believe meet the Wikipedia standard for reliable sources. (Perhaps I'm wrong, though.) If you search for "dutch bros controversy" you will find several articles about another company formed by co-founder Travis Boersma. But that is a completely separate entity from Dutch Bros and Dutch Bros has never had any involvement with that company. I think it's worth reiterating that the History draft I've prepared on my user page largely covers the same content as the existing article, I've just tried to improve sourcing and provide more details on expansion and events leading to the Dutch Bros IPO. If you could look it over and let me know what you think, I would be very grateful. Hillaryjbrown (talk) 05:00, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- @Hillaryjbrown: I took a look at your edit request. I put the suggested text into the current history section, and then viewed the changes so I could see what you were requesting. The challenge for reviewers is that you are removing info with this edit. The America's Top Boss appearance and the founder's ALS death are two missing items that I noticed, and I see you mentioned this above. I'm assuming that you are planning on putting the info into different sections, such as Products and Operations, but we'd need to see those other sections first. If you want to post them here and ping me, I'll review everything for you. Please also note that there's an atypical reference section in the current article, which will need to be integrated so the info matches. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 00:59, 12 April 2022 (UTC)
- Hey, User:Timtempleton, this is super helpful. I've gone ahead and put all my drafts on user pages so you can see everything. I'll be honest, I didn't intend on keeping the Undercover Boss mention because I assumed editors would think it wasn't encyclopedic. Since you've brought it up, I added it back into my History draft. I saw that the References are formatted a bit differently to how this is explained in the help guide. I was hoping my citations could totally replace the current references section, but I'm not sure on the best logistics for that!
- Here are the link to the drafts:
- Is there anything else that would be helpful to you as you review? Hillaryjbrown (talk) 17:23, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Hillaryjbrown: This is good - I can review over the weekend. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 04:40, 30 April 2022 (UTC)
- Done @Hillaryjbrown: I merged your requested edits into the article. I didn't include the excessive info about store culture, operations and training, nor the overly detailed charitable info. Rather, I summarized the charitable info but kept some of the sources for readers who want to learn more. I also found a source for the actual start date, which was unsourced before. I also changed the referencing style from them being listed in the reference section, to making them inline. I also had to combine some refs - the names were duplicated in different sections with different content. It looks better now but isn't overly promotional. Other page stalkers are welcome to cull further if they don't think I got enough. If you want to give back to show your appreciation for the time it took for me to do this, they can always use help at the Helpout section on Wikipedia:Community portal. You look like you have a good command of the syntax. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 04:13, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help, user:Timtempleton. It's taken quite a long time to get this article meaningfully updated, so I really appreciate your time and effort here. I'll be back soon with a minor edit request regarding the article's introduction, if you want to take a look at that. Hillaryjbrown (talk) 19:35, 4 May 2022 (UTC)

Requesting update to introduction
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello! The page looks much better now, with all the up-to–date information that's been added. Thanks again to the editors who gave me feedback on my section drafts. Moving on, I wanted to make a comparatively minor request: can we add a couple pieces of information to the introduction? My suggestion on content and sourcing is this:
Dutch Bros Coffee is a publicly held drive-through coffee chain in the United States.[1][2] Founded by Dane and Travis Boersma in 1992, it is headquartered in Grants Pass, Oregon.[1][3] It has company-owned and franchise stores primarily located in the western United States.[1][3]

I think it's a good idea to add the company's founders and its founding year, as well as rephrasing that last sentence to reflect the fact that the company has stores outside of the western United States. I'll ask User:Timtempleton if they agree, but obviously other editors are welcome to weigh in too. Thanks! Hillaryjbrown (talk) 16:56, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Hillaryjbrown: Happy to help, but don’t forget to see how you can pay it forward with an hour or so helping out at the Helpout section at Wikipedia:Community portal. It’s going to be a new pet project of mine to help improve Wikipedia while cleaning up the COI request backlog. I’m taking a short Wikibreak but should be back in a couple of weeks. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 02:28, 7 May 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Hillaryjbrown:! I've updated the lead, with some minor changes that I felt. I didn't add citations to it because it's supported later in the article. I hope you're not disappointed at how long this took--responding to COI edit requests require a lot of involvement by editors to make sure things are alright. If you need anything from me about this, don't hesitate to {{ping}} me. SWinxy (talk) 01:28, 9 June 2022 (UTC)
- So sorry for the delay in replying- thanks for jumping in to make these changes, User:SWinxy! I definitely appreciate the time and effort from volunteer editors to review these requests, and I'm grateful for your help with this one specifically. Thanks again. Requesting a few updates to the article
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello! I've returned to this Talk page to ask for a few small updates to the article. They are as follows:
- Replace Joth Ricci with Christine Barone in the infobox. Barone is already listed in the Operations section as CEO, a position she took over in January of this year.
- Update the Operations section to include the December 2023 store and employee count. To make things easier for editors, here's a revised version of the section that features these new numbers:
Updated Operations
|
---|
Dutch Bros is headquartered in Grants Pass, Oregon.[1] It is majority-owned by Travis Boersma, who holds the title of executive chairman, and Christine Barone is its president and CEO.[2][3] In September 2021, Dutch Bros became a publicly traded company, selling 21 million shares for a total of $484 million.[2] As of December 2023, the company consists of 831 store across 16 states and employs approximately 24,000 people.[4] References
|
- Add a sentence to the Charity section about Dutch Bros' two other national charitable initiatives, Dutch Luv and Buck for Kids. Here's my suggestion for that new sentence:
Updated Charity
|
---|
Through "Drink One for Dane", Dutch Bros. Coffee donates to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.[1] Its other annual charitable initiatives include Dutch Luv, which benefits local food banks, and Buck for Kids, which supports local youth organizations, including Boys and Girls Club chapters.[2][3] References
|
I think these edits are fairly straightforward, but if any independent editors have questions, please ask away! Thanks so much, Hillary Hillaryjbrown (talk) 19:30, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- Done Reasonable and straightforward. @Hillaryjbrown: Thank you for going through the proper process (and citation formatting!) - DrOrinScrivello (talk) 20:57, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks so much, User:DrOrinScrivello! If I could ask one more thing, would you mind taking a look at my request below? While I was reviewing the article, I noticed a pair of errors in the infobox and the Operations section.
- I know you're a volunteer, so if you don't have time, that's totally okay. Again, thanks for your help with the request above. Hillaryjbrown (talk) 23:00, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
Requesting a pair of fixes
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hey there! Sorry to ask for another update so soon after the first one was made, but I noticed a couple errors in the article. First, the store count in the infobox is incorrect. It says that Dutch Bros has 917 shops in 17 states, as of January 2024. I don't know where that 917 number is coming from. It's definitely not in the linked financial document. I found a recent CNBC article that has us at 876 stores across 17 states.
So, I'm asking that the Number of locations field in the infobox read: 876 in 17 states (May 2024)[1]
References
- ^ Coleman, Julie (May 8, 2024). "Dutch Bros. CEO details nationwide expansion strategy as company nears 900 locations". CNBC. Retrieved May 9, 2024.
Second, there's a pair of redundant lines in the Operations section about stores and employees. I've italicized them here:
Operations (current)
|
---|
Dutch Bros is headquartered in Grants Pass, Oregon.[1] It is majority-owned by Travis Boersma, who holds the title of executive chairman, and Christine Barone is its president and CEO.[2][3] The company operates approximately 800 stores across 16 states and employs about 23,000 people.[1][4][5] In September 2021, Dutch Bros became a publicly traded company, selling 21 million shares for a total of $484 million.[2] As of December 2023[update], the company consisted of 831 stores across 16 states and employed approximately 24,000 people.[6] References
|
Here's a version of the Operations that excises the redundant content and updates the store count:
Operations (updated)
|
---|
Dutch Bros is headquartered in Grants Pass, Oregon.[1] It is majority-owned by Travis Boersma, who holds the title of executive chairman, and Christine Barone is its president and CEO.[2][3] In September 2021, Dutch Bros became a publicly traded company, selling 21 million shares for a total of $484 million.[2] As of December 2023, the company employed approximately 24,000 people.[4] As of May 2024, it had 876 stores across 17 states.[5] References
|
I hope none of this is too confusing. I promise I won't be asking to update the store count every time there's a new article about how many we operate. My main concern is that the number is accurate as of a certain date. Thanks! Hillaryjbrown (talk) 22:59, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- Done Again, straightforward and uncontroversial. DrOrinScrivello (talk) 23:56, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
- Your changes look great. Thank you again for the assistance, User:DrOrinScrivello, you've been a big help! Hillaryjbrown (talk) 21:56, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
Proposing new store image for article
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello! I was recently rummaging through our press materials and realized that I have access to some high-quality photos of various Dutch Bros stores. I've uploaded one of those images, which depicts an Albuquerque, NM location, to Wikimedia Commons and made it available for public use. I'll link to it here: photo link. Could this Albuquerque photo replace the existing Bakersfield one? I think it's a little more handsome, and will give readers a better idea of what a Dutch Bros shop looks like.
Thanks in advance to anyone who responds to this request! Hillaryjbrown (talk) 19:25, 30 July 2024 (UTC)
