Merger proposal
[edit]Suggest merging Great Globe to this article per WP:MERGE#Rationale #2, since much of the content of the two articles is duplicative. Even better might be a merger of both this article and the Great Globe one to Durlston Country Park, which could certainly absorb the material about both these features without becoming overlong. - Disagree one article is about a sculpture the other about a park, yes they may have started off with a lot of overlap but there is no reason why that should continue as they develop over time. ϢereSpielChequers 12:29, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
- I agree with merging them. There is a lot of overlap, and I can't think of much more that can be said about the Globe. Even if a lot more could be said, it would still be consistent with how Wikipedia is generally to merge them. Look at Chatsworth House for an example of widely differing things grouped under one "country estate" location title. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.254.146.20 (talk) 11:33, 24 August 2010 (UTC)
- Support - I would like to see these two articles merged with Durlston Country Park as suggested above. Perhaps WereSpielChequers would support a merge if the articles about the castle and the globe were kept as seperate sections and redirects took you to the relevant paragraph. I don't think I explained that very well, see how Stanpit Marsh takes you to the section about the marsh in the article Stanpit for example. If either section is ever expanded sufficiently, the article can always be split up again. Better to have one fairly decent article than a couple of stubs, I think.--Ykraps (talk) 18:38, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Disagree - Compare Nelson's Column and Trafalgar Square - the Great Globe is independently notable - postcards dating back to Victorian times are labelled "The Great Globe, Swanage" with no mention of Durlston. Article needs editing and enhancing, not folding away into another. SDS (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:42, 22 September 2011 (UTC).
- Disagree: The castle is a restaurant and includes a Jurassic Coast Visitor Centre, these are run separately. The Globe is a sculpture and visitor attraction that has nothing to do with the restaurant. Greeting --Huligan0 (talk) 14:52, 26 August 2012 (UTC)
