1) The "Ireland.com" link is broken. I went to the site, but didn't see any obvious way to find it again.

I found an updated link on ireland.com, which seems to get its information directly from discoverireland.ie. I've replaced the dead link with a discoverireland.ie one. Andrewmc (talk) 16:23, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2) The implication of the story about following the rebels into the cave, then hearing them miles away is: a) They got clean away? b) The caves are really longer than a quarter mile? c) The people of that time hadn't explored the caves, and didn't know how short they were?

3) The history seems incomplete. The "Dunmore Cave" link says: "The most interesting reference however, comes from the Annals which tells of a Viking massacre at the cave in the year 928 A.D." The "Annals" may or may not refer to the same event? The story in 2) has no references.

4) What does "one of the three darkest places in Ireland mean"??? 67.169.127.176 (talk) 02:14, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to be a legendary attribution, along with Newgrange and Knowth, but I've no formal references for it. Andrewmc (talk) 16:23, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'd been about to remove this as possible WP:OR before finding that it's in the Triads of Ireland. Now properly referenced. Fattonyni (talk) 03:58, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Legend

[edit]

I've removed this passage from the article as there was no citation for the story - kept here in case a source can be found:

Tradition has it that a company of English soldiers followed some local rebels into the caves, but never returned. Some time later, the sound of their fifes and drums was heard coming from underneath Kilkenny Castle, about three miles (5 km) away.
