Concerns over article content
[edit]Yesterday I added information to this page which included:-
- Henry Carey building the first castle, of which only the bawn walls remain
- James McCloskey purchasing the property in 1925
- The 2001 British Orienteering Championship
- Acts which had appeared in Dungiven Castle
- Amongst other additions, I contributed m 6,774 bytes +4,164 which @JBW deleted as speedy deletion
- I am not happy and I do not agree with this deletion and I want my article reinstated
- If there were concerns regarding copyright of the content of the new version of the article, I should have been given the opportunity to remedy this before it was speedily deleted
- What gives @JBW the right to delete my whole article without raising their concerns with me first?

- Sperrins JBW is an editor, just like you and me, and they determined that the text violated copyright and removed it. It was not speedy deleted, which involves the deletion of an entire article. Copyright violations potentially put Wikipedia in legal jeopardy, so they cannot be allowed to stand. If you are able to write the text in your own words and provide sources to support it, you may do so. 331dot (talk) 08:07, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- @JBW completely removed the article which I had spent hours researching so I am unable to put it into my own words. It is not even in the deleted log. Sperrins (talk) 08:40, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not sure why you are saying the article is completely removed, it is not. Your edits were removed, but not the entire article. 331dot (talk) 09:02, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- My article was completely removed not the Wikipedia article, It is my article which I researched thoroughly and uploaded. Sperrins (talk) 09:40, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- That's not how this works. Once you click Publish, the edit belongs to Wikipedia. A disclaimer stating this is given near the Publish button. See WP:OWN as well. 331dot (talk) 09:59, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- If it was not copied from elsewhere, discuss that with JBW. 331dot (talk) 10:01, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- Sperrins, I don't know what you mean by "article", but what is normally understood by that word in Wikipedia has not been deleted. If you mean your changes to the article, then yes they have been deleted, and that is, as I said, because of copyright infringement. 37% of what you added was word for word identical to text at https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northwest-dungiven-castle-story-not-yet-complete/28141474.html, and the figure is higher than that if we include text with small changes in wording, such as substituting "Glenshane Community Development Limited" for "Glenshane Community Development Group". Wikipedia policy is that copyright-infringing material should be removed immediately, not left hanging around while an editor gets around to changing it. If you don't like that policy you can seek to have it changed, but as long as it is the policy you don't have grounds for complaint because an administrator implements that policy.
