Talk:Duke of Earl
This article is rated C-class on Wikipedia's content assessment scale. It is of interest to the following WikiProjects: | ||||||||||||||||||

Release Date
[edit]The article text says the song was release at the end of 1961. Discogs shows the single was released 1961 (VJ 416 - seee https://www.discogs.com/Gene-Chandler-Duke-Of-Earl-Kissin-In-The-Kitchen/master/211962) but the info box says the release date is January 1962 (which the body of the article says is when it entered the BB Hot 100). I'm not clear of Wikipedia style guidelines for this type of thing. Should the infobox be changed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lkantrov (talk • contribs) 20:06, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
Duke of Earl Fags
[edit]I have removed the following text from this article:
- The production company "Duke Of Earl Fags" are named after the song and after the music video they first appeared in.
I have done this because I could find no reference to it on Google or Yahoo. 81.157.64.132 11:24, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
Arles
[edit]Is there any connection with the medieval Kingdom of Arles?AThousandYoung (talk) 03:02, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Number of "Dukes"
[edit]In case anyone is interested, I counted the number of times the word "Duke" was mentioned in the song.. including background vocals. Duke was spoken exactly 117 times. This gives us about .813 Dukes per second in the song. 72.204.198.194 (talk) 02:06, 18 May 2008 (UTC) Mike
Writers
[edit]I believe that one of the writers was Bernice Williams not Bernie Williams please refer to http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8013102.stm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.69.225.32 (talk) 12:41, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Decore Ad
[edit]Duke of Earl was used as a basis for a Decore ad. The singer of the jingle, Armando Hurley, released a version of the song as Armando Hurley and the Dukes of Earlwood. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.53.226.17 (talk) 04:38, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
What is a "duke of earl"?
[edit]I know what a duke is, and I know what an earl is; but I have never understood what a "duke of earl" might be. The article should explain the term if there is an explanation or label it as nonsense if that is what it is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.53.195.38 (talk) 18:08, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
- It's a nonsense phrase. The only way there could ever be a "Duke of Earl" would be if someone was made a Duke of a place called Earl. 65.13.220.212 (talk) 16:38, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, this is quite a well known nonsense term. Terry Pratchett references it in several of his Discworld comic fantasy novels, with variant spellings. --Ef80 (talk) 22:33, 13 December 2020 (UTC)
Popular culture references
[edit]This section is totally out of hand, and totally unreferenced. Should it be completely deleted, or should any parts of it be retained? Ghmyrtle (talk) 19:30, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Cover by Joey Ramone
[edit]Even it is not released on one of his soloalbums it is officially released on youtube so it should be named in the covers' list, see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLueApswPPM 92.201.66.176 (talk) 16:34, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
