Removed the sentence "Also, much of the town sucess can be attribituted to Clinton West Jones born in Dublin on July 24, 1971. Mr. Jones now resides in Eastman Georgia with his wife and twin sons.". It looks like it may have been written by someone connected to Clinton West Jones, and it is not relevant to the city's profile. Regards, Claudio

Changed the sentence beginning "Because of Dublin's location as a midpoint between Savannah and Atlanta," to read "Because of Dublin's location as a midpoint between Savannah and Macon". There are more direct routes between Savannah and Atlanta that pass nowhere near Dublin. Dublin is considered the midpoint between Savannah and Macon, along the I-16 route. Pageants

[edit]

Should this be here, it seems poorly written and Unnecessary. This article was already needing cleanup.--72.146.210.253 21:48, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edit to the initial paragraph. The population data wasn't jiving. The 56,434 number applies to the Dublin micropolitan area, not to Dublin itself. Also applied some more general clean up. Eric S. 05:48, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Midway Point

[edit]

As a resident of Dublin most people say Dublin is in-between Atlanta and Savannah, Not Macon That’s why all the factories are here, also I-16 is the quickest route . --68.154.22.149 17:39, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dublin is about half way between Atlanta and Savannah, and through Dublin on I-16 is the fastest route, and is about two hours from each. Dublin is not half way between Macon and Savannah, it much closer to Macon, about 50 minutes to Macon and 2 hours to Savannah. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.251.201.20 (talk) 19:36, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dublin High School

[edit]

I'm moving information from the Education section about sports at Dublin High School here because of no article to sustain it. "Dublin High School's football team tied Charlton County in the 2006 State Football Championships. Dublin High School's soccer team was the first team in the area to make it to the state championship. Dublins cross country team has been to state 5 years in a row. Dublin's Fighting Irish boys' basketball team won the AA State Championship in both 2006 and 2009." When the high school page is created this information should be transported there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tamer of hope (talkcontribs) 21:16, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

James Joyce and Dublin, Georgia motto

[edit]

The motto: "Doubling all the time." is a creation of James Joyce and Wikipedia is using a James Joyce Society webpage as reference for the motto and of course the source circles back to James Joyce's letter to Harriet Shaw Weaver. In “James Joyce and Heraldry” by Michael J. O'Shea, he states that in a letter the Office of the City Manager of Dublin, Georgia (25 July 1984), “has no record of the motto ever being used”. Also, the Dublin Laurens County Chamber of Commerce makes no mention of the motto and also has the legend of the founder's name as Jonathan (not Peter) Sawyer.
