Singles and Promos

[edit]

I've gathered a little info about DT discography, and it seems that many of the singles listed in this page are, in fact, promotional releases. This is what I've got so far:

  • Singles (as listed at [1])
    • Another Day
    • Lie
    • The Silent Man
    • Hollow Years
    • Through Her Eyes
  • Promos (as listed at [2])
    • Status Seeker
    • Afterlife
    • Pull Me Under (also a single)
    • Take the Time
    • Surrounded
    • Caught in a Web
    • Burning My Soul
    • You Not Me
    • Home
    • As I Am

Can someone help to clear this up? Hetcenus 18:52, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Systematic chaos

[edit]

The artwork is so wrong... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 201.82.42.226 (talk) 10:45, 24 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Images

[edit]

Can someone explain to me how having images there violates the free-use policy? I'm fairly new to Wikipedia and I don't get it, they seemed perfectly relevant to illustrate the point of the discography to me. Adamravenscroft 17:46, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyrighted images have to meet several criteria in order to be used under so-called "fair use". Criterion #8 specifically states that the images may not be used in lists or galleries, and this criterion is the one which justifies the removal of these images from lists of TV episodes, discographies, and other similar "list of" type of articles. (ESkog)(Talk) 18:24, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Format

[edit]

I reckon this sort of list needs a different format, since its quite hard to gather information as it stands, all in a single column. I think it needs to be similar to the Megadeth discography: XJDenton 16:38, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This format looked good when we used to have the album covers in the first column of the table. I think I have posted some time ago a discography template on the band's talk page; it might be interesting to use that. What do you people think? Hetcenus (Talk) 00:25, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not to keen on the design of the Megadeth discography, grids aren't particularly easy on the eye, IMO. I do quite like that template one though, it's essentially a clean up of the current format. Adamravenscroft 10:16, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've started to write it in the new format at User:Hetcenus/Dream Theater discography. I think it's better to finish it there and then copy-paste it here, if it turns out better. Take a look, everyone, and tell me what you think. Hetcenus (Talk) 00:17, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's good, better than what we've got currently. Adamravenscroft 09:18, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Developed the page a little more. Come on, people! That page is a wiki too!! ;) Hetcenus (Talk) 03:11, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Added live and video releases, official bootlegs and fan club CDs, I think I'm done. Opinions? Hetcenus (Talk) 21:22, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's brilliant, change this page to that. Adamravenscroft 13:38, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Newer Information?

[edit]

Does anyone have newer sales information for the albums? Especially Systematic Chaos? It seems that 90,000 number has been up for a while, and it's likely higher by a decent number by now. 142.68.197.58 02:51, 22 October 2007 (UTC) Also, for SC, are the different editions counted seperately or together? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.68.197.58 (talk) 20:11, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fan club DVDs

[edit]

The bottom information on Fan club DVDs is out of source. Of course it needs explanation for those who doesn't know from what club they are. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.69.172.49 (talk) 03:22, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aprt from these two, I only know the norwegian dvd and the "A road to Wembley" project... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.44.218.76 (talk) 11:35, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DVD Sales Info?

[edit]

I think having DVD sales info would be a good idea. Several of their live DVDs have gone platinum in the United States. 142.68.197.58 17:49, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Live at Marqee is a Live EP

[edit]

According to the official site here Live at the Marqee is a Live EP. I will change the article to match. But I still think it should be left under the Live Albums catagory.Blackngold29 (talk) 16:54, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New version

[edit]

I've updated a WIP version of this page with the new info and reference tags, available at User:Hetcenus/Dream Theater discography. People, tell me what you think, and if it's good enough, I'll replace the page tomorrow. Hetcenus (Talk) 22:52, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some others bootlegs

[edit]

I have found on the internet another discs (Lords of Sound). What about it?, is it an official bootlegs?, or is it part of the discography? (sorry for my english) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.12.141.223 (talk) 13:56, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Side Projects?

[edit]

Should this be a place to possibly list side projects and collaborations? Splent (talk) 04:11, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I added the link because that is a major list containing about 99% of the projects all the past and present DT members have contributed to. I think that's worth noting on this page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Splent (talkcontribs) 20:16, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article is about Dream Theater, not what its members do in their spare time. Each member has his own article, their side-projects should be listed there. If one were to start adding side-projects this list would be unnecessarily massive. blackngold29 22:06, 28 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FL

[edit]

Congratulations on the promotion to featured list status to the contributors - I saw the FLC discussion, but didn't feel qualified to list arguments in support of the promotion, but being a big fan of DT myself I'm glad to see it happening. MathiasRav (talk) 20:36, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Platinum In Japan

[edit]

According to Mike Portnoy's site, all of Dream Theater's albums have gone platinum in Japan (or Gold, since he specifies 100,000 copies, which is Gold in Japan). http://www.mikeportnoy.com/aboutmike/faq/answers/15.aspx#409 Question 9.

If someone could verify this, wouldn't it be worth noting? 142.177.93.158 (talk) 01:10, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Awake DID go platinum in Japan. Here's a video of James LaBrie saying it:

What's going on with the singles table?

[edit]

Some of the entries aren't even albums (Acoustic Dreams is a bootleg; GoW isn't a DT release), and it looks like someone dumped the entire tracklisting of BC&SL disk 2 into the table. Before I remove it, can I ask if someone had something particular in mind by doing this?- Simon Dodd { U·T·C·WP:LAW } 19:00, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory gold certification?

[edit]

If you check the article with Dream Theater's fifth album, Scenes from a Memory, then go to the bottom of the section "History", you'll see the sentence: "In 2010 the album went GOLD in the US."

Write it down! Christhedrummer95 (talk) 12:58, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Canadian charts removed?

[edit]

There used to be information on this page from Canadian album charts. Now there isn't. I'm not sure why that would be removed, but someone should probably put that back in. 99.192.37.47 (talk) 06:15, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Questionable Sources

[edit]

Some of the numbers seemed a bit off, so I checked one of the sources. Specifically, the citation for the Scenes From A Memory sales figures, which links to a Metal Sludge page from 2002 courtesy of the internet wayback machine. First, I seem to recall there being more recent information available for many of the albums in question (including Scenes From A Memory going gold in the US in 2010). As well, the information present is nine unlabeled numbers for Dream Theater. Seeing as they only had six studio albums in 2002, can we reliably assign these numbers to albums? My assumption would be that some of these are live albums, but then that's only an assumption. As well, the article itself seems to be questioning the validity of some of the numbers mentioned (for other artists mentioned on the same page). This doesn't seem like the most reputable of sources. Does anyone perhaps have better information we could source? 47.54.63.42 (talk) 01:18, 21 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Black Clouds

[edit]

Black Clouds has at least some numbers. Its article has it debuting with over 40,000, which was at least cited at the time. I think it's slightly over 40,000 (42,000?), but Billboard, despite their supposed station in charting the music industry, is actually very slack in documenting these things. None the less, I think that article alone has sufficient citing for at least 40,000 (again, I think that's the debut, but better than nothing). 134.41.125.152 (talk) 02:10, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Chart Inaccuracy

[edit]

First of all, there used to be Canadian chart data, and now there isn't. That needs to be corrected. As well, it seems as if some Japanese data has been removed? Such as how some of their early albums performed in Japan. How Scenes From A Memory performed seems to have been erased as well, as that album went at least Gold in the US. 47.54.6.123 (talk) 03:27, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
