RE:Changing of page name
[edit]Please do not change the name of the page as per POV. Wiki Raja 04:50, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
merged into Indian martial arts
[edit]as it turns out, South Indian martial arts is mostly summed up, correctly or incorrectly, under Kalarippayattu (includng Varma ati, which is dubbed "southern Kalarippayattu"). Also, it is pointless to delineate martial arts by language group. "Dravidian martial arts" does not make any better sense than, say, "Germanic martial arts", or indeed "Indo-European martial arts". --dab (𒁳) 21:03, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
- This is about South Indian martial arts, different types of martial arts in India. Please don't remove this article. --Caughingjoe (talk) 14:04, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
I did not "remove" this article, I merged it. It doesn't address any scope not already covered elsewhere. You did not address the point I make above in any way. --dab (𒁳) 17:15, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

tellingly, google books gives me one hit for this "topic", and that from a fantasy novel. I will turn this back into a redirect until and unless somebody presents evidence that there is such a thing as a notion of "Dravidian martial arts". --dab (𒁳) 11:17, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
- The term should only describe the geographic origin of these types of martial arts. And the most common term is Dravidian martial arts in google including some newspaper articles. This is what I found about South Indian martial arts in books: http://books.google.com/books?as_brr=0&q=%22South+Indian+martial+arts%22&btnG=Search+Books--Caughingjoe (talk) 23:51, 24 September 2009 (UTC)
Merge per dab Dravudian martial arts is not a a widely used term and does not deserve a separate article --NotedGrant Talk 07:16, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
These are different traditions and they deserve a seperate article. No-merge.--Wangond (talk) 17:21, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- yeah, if you want to keep this page, the burden is on you to establish that the term "Dravidian martial arts" even exists. So far you have done nothing of the kind. You cannot just create articles under titles you just pull out of thin air. Either this is an encyclopedic topic, or it is not. If it is, kindly show your WP:RS dedicated to "Dravidian martial arts". If you are unable to do this, you have no business recreating this page. Also, should you be able to point out that the term exists and that is essentially a synonym of Kalarippayattu, you will have made a case for turning this into a redirect to Kalarippayattu. Thank you. --dab (𒁳) 16:21, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
