Douglas Montgomery movie actor

I heard Montgomery was actually born in Brantford Ontario Canada. He may have been raised in California. There was false information given out for publicity purposes back in the 1930s. Montgomery changed his name more than once so maybe this lead to confusion. He went to Canada during the war and then moved to Britain.
